A hectic 2020-21 season starts for Tottenham against Everton on Sunday.

Spurs' Premier League opener kicks off a gruelling run of fixtures that could see them play as many as nine matches in 21 days due to Europa League qualifying and Carabao Cup commitments.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho described such a pile-up of games as "not human" in a pre-match press conference rant, while he also expressed confidence that the club would be signing a new striker to provide competition and support for Harry Kane amid links to the likes of Napoli frontman Arkadiusz Milik.

Joe Hart, Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are the three new faces recruited by Spurs so far this summer.

This weekend's opponents, Everton, look a far stronger outfit under Carlo Ancelotti after significantly boosting their midfield unit over recent days with the acquisitions of James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Date, time and venue

Tottenham vs Everton is scheduled for a 4:30pm BST kick-off on Sunday, September 13.

The match will be played behind closed doors at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with no fans due to be present due to government guidelines regarding coronavirus.

How to watch

TV channel: The match will be televised live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League, with coverage starting from 4pm.

Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers will be able to stream the match online via the website and SkyGo app.

Team news

Japhet Tanganga is Tottenham's only confirmed injury absentee, with the young defender nursing a thigh problem after initially dealing with a stress fracture to his back.

Mourinho will make a late call on the fitness of Giovani Lo Celso, who is carrying a hamstring issue.

As for Everton, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes have both been declared fit after injury, but Mason Holgate has been ruled out with a toe problem.

Ancelotti will also assess the condition of midfielder Fabian Delph following his return to training.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Everton

Tottenham had little trouble in putting EFL opposition to the sword during a short pre-season before a team missing its internationals was bested by relegated Watford.

Mourinho will have to get the balance of his squad just right to cope with the demanding fixture schedule over the coming weeks, with this match quickly followed by a trip to Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the second Europa League qualifying round.

Everton drew with Blackpool and beat Preston over the summer and it will be interesting to see how their high-profile new signings gel, particularly James.

An entertaining draw could beckon in N17.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

These two clubs have met on 56 previous occasions in the Premier League era, with Tottenham winning 27 games and Everton just eight. There have been 21 draws.

Last season, the sides drew 1-1 at Goodison Park before a narrow post-restart home win for Spurs in July.
