Tottenham vs Liverpool LIVE! Premier League result, match stream, latest updates and reaction
Tottenham left it late to down nine-man Liverpool 2-1 and had an own goal by Joel Matip to thank for their stoppage-time win as the defender turned the ball home to leave Spurs second in the Premier League behind Manchester City on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool had gamely battled to try to take home a point after Cody Gakpo cancelled out Heung-min Son's opener with the visitors having Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota sent off in a feisty clash.
Spurs took the lead in the 36th minute through Son, 10 minutes after Jones was sent off for a crunching tackle on midfielder Yves Bissouma, before Gakpo equalised just before halftime with a smart shot on the turn in the box. The Dutch midfielder was injured in scoring though and did not come out for the second period, with Jota replacing him, but the Portuguese forward was dismissed in the 69th after a second yellow card and Liverpool held out until Matip's own goal.
Tottenham's victory puts them in second spot on 17 points along with third-placed Arsenal and both teams are now a point behind Manchester City who lost at Wolverhampton Wanderers. The defeat leaves Liverpool in fourth position on 16 points. Follow all the action LIVE with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog! Dan Kilpatrick will be providing expert analysis from the ground!

98min: That’s it! Another huge, late win for Spurs!
GOAL!
19:30 , Alex Young
96min: They’ve done it -- well, Matip’s done it! Boots the ball into his own net under little pressure!
19:29 , Alex Young
95min: Alisson booked for timewasting. You can’t blame him.
19:26 , Alex Young
93min: Richarlison with a weak header at goal. It’s just a cross towards the back post, and it’s it for Spurs. Over and over again.
19:25 , Alex Young
92min: Six minutes added on.
19:25 , Alex Young
91min: Hojbjerg replaced by Bissouma.
19:23 , Alex Young
90min: Romero is booked. Maddison is replaced by young striker Velez for his debut.
19:20 , Alex Young
86min: Spurs have lost their momentum. They look more likely to score, sure, but they don’t actually look like scoring.
19:16 , Alex Young
83min: Davies and Skipp are on for Sarr and Udogie.
19:15 , Alex Young
82min: Kulusevski takes a tumble inside the area, but the referee isn’t interested.
19:12 , Alex Young
78min: Romero is limping after clearing a Liverpool attack. He looks OK to continue.
19:09 , Alex Young
75min: Alexander-Arnold’s first involvement is to win a corner, which Van Dijk meets but it’s well over the bar.
19:07 , Alex Young
73min: Triple change for Liverpool. Endo, Alexander-Arnold and Konate on for Gomez, Diaz and Salah.
Dan Kilpatrick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
19:04 , Alex Young
“Jota can probably count himself unlucky for the first booking, which looked like minor contact on Udogie. But once he was on a yellow card, it was brainless to dive in on the left-back again. Easy decision for referee Simon Hooper.”
RED CARD!
19:04 , Alex Young
70min: Jota gets two yellow cards inside a minute and the half-time substitute is off! Liverpool are down to nine men.
19:02 , Alex Young
68min: Son is coming off. That’s interesting. Solomon on.
19:01 , Alex Young
66min: Incredible last-ditch sliding tackle from Porro to deny Salah, who continues to pose a threat on the counter.
Dan Kilpatrick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
18:57 , Alex Young
“Spurs are piling the pressure on ten-man Liverpool in search of a second goal. The visitors remain a threat on the counter, especially with Salah in this touch, but pattern of the game very much set now.”
18:56 , Alex Young
62min: Kulusevski tries to find Richarlison at the back post, but again Alisson is there to thwart Spurs.
NO GOAL!
18:53 , Alex Young
59min: Now it’s Spurs’ turn to have a goal disallowed as Maddison feeds Richarlison, who finds Son ... but Richarlison went a tad early.
18:52 , Alex Young
57min: Spurs get the chance to break now as Son finds Udogie, but the left-back opts to turn back inside and find Sarr for a pop at goal. He looked almost through on goal then.
Dan Kilpatrick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
18:49 , Alex Young
“Alisson is, for me, the best goalkeeper in Europe. At least once he game, he makes a decisive save and he’s made two in quick succession here, denying Maddison and then Son with flying stops.”
18:45 , Alex Young
51min: Another incredible stop from Alissonm this time to deny Son, who spins in the edge of the area and fire in a volley.
18:43 , Alex Young
49min: A stunning effort from Maddison, and an even better save from Allison to claw the ball out of the top corner.
18:41 , Alex Young
48min: Spurs on the ball with Liverpool sitting back in the opening stages of the second half. You feel that will be a trend.
Second half
18:39 , Alex Young
46min: Back underway. Jota is on for Gakpo.
18:32 , Alex Young
Such a great half of football: two goals, one controversially disallowed and a contentious red card. Almost time for the second half.
Half-time!
18:24 , Alex Young
52min: Diaz goes within inches on the stroke of half-time! A superb half of football.
Dan Kilpatrick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
18:23 , Alex Young
“Awful time for Spurs to concede and they only have themselves to blame. They will, though, feel aggrieved that Udogie was penalised for a foul on goalscorer Gakpo ahead of the goal, despite appearing to win the ball. The left-back, who is up against Salah, was also booked.”
GOAL!
18:20 , Alex Young
50min: Liverpool are level! Gakpo turns inside the area and fires home!
18:20 , Alex Young
49min: Yellow card for Udogie as he takes out Gakpo from behind.
18:17 , Alex Young
45min: Liverpool win a free kick on the corner of Spurs’ area after a foul by Richarlison, it’s floated in but comes to nothing.
Six minutes added on.
POST!
18:14 , Alex Young
43min: Richarlison thinks he has the goal he so craves, but his shot across Alisson pings off the far post.
18:13 , Alex Young
41min: Another chance for Spurs as Son finds Richarlison inside the area, but the Brazilian can’t quite carve open the space for a decent shot on goal.
18:11 , Alex Young
39min: The stadium is absolutely pumping. Spurs on top and their fans are in full voice.
GOAL!
18:07 , Alex Young
36min: That one counts! A brilliant move as Maddison feeds Richarlison into the area, the defence is flat-footed, and Son glides in to score.
Dan Kilpatrick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
18:07 , Alex Young
“With an extra man, Spurs have a real chance to show they have a ruthless edge and earn a landmark win here. But Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal - for a fractional offside - is a timely reminder that Liverpool remain a threat on the counter with 10 men.”
NO GOAL
18:06 , Alex Young
35min: Diaz thinks he has given Liverpool the lead with a superb shot across Vicario, but he is inches offside in the build-up.
18:05 , Alex Young
33min: Composure needed from Richarlison as Kulusevski finds him inside the area but the Brazilian blazes over.
18:03 , Alex Young
30min: Complete momentum shift now, of course. It’s wave after wave of Spurs attacks with Maddison at the centre of it.
Dan Kilpatrick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
18:02 , Alex Young
“Curtis Jones can have no complaints. It wasn't malicious or deliberate but he went over the ball and planted his studs on Bissouma's calf, so there's no doubt it was a dangerous challenge.”
RED CARD!
17:56 , Alex Young
25min: Oh wow. Jones could be going here. It’s a dreadful, dreadful challenge, over the ball and onto Bissouma’s ankle. The referee shows a yellow, and VAR says to review. It’s a red card!
Dan Kilpatrick at teh Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
17:55 , Alex Young
“This is great fun. Both teams are pressing high and hard, so there’s loads of space in the middle of the park if either defence manages to play out. Liverpool are looking the more menacing in transition, with Spurs more hesitant in the final third.”
17:53 , Alex Young
22min: Liverpool really pushing for the opener... but they won’t do it like that. Salah tries to bend one from the edge of the area with the outside of his boot, but it’s 10 yards wide.
17:51 , Alex Young
20min: Corner comes to nothing.
17:50 , Alex Young
19min: Another minute, another sweeping attacking move as Salah sends Mac Allister shuttling down the right to whip a ball in for Gakpo, who’s shot is deflected behind.
17:49 , Alex Young
18min: Kulusevski’s cross hits Van Dijk’s arm and there are screams for a penalty, but the referee isn’t interested. Corner it is. It’s sent up by the Swede, but fails to beat the first man
17:47 , Alex Young
16min: Break in play as Romero comes off worse from a challenge with Diaz. Looks like an elbow in the face, but certainly not intentional.
17:44 , Alex Young
13min: Huge DOUBLE save from Vicario as first Gakpo and then Robertson are denied from close range.
Blistering start.
17:42 , Alex Young
11min: Inches from the opener! Richarlison does brilliantly to bend a low pass across the face of goal which Alisson misses and Kulusevski cannot get a boot on.
17:40 , Alex Young
9min: It’s a fantastic start, both teams not holding back and just trading attacks.
17:39 , Alex Young
7min: Spurs must give their fans heart attacks while playing out from the back, but it doesn’t half work for them. Bissouma spins into space and charges over the halfway line, finding Maddison, who is quickly fouled by Jones.
17:37 , Alex Young
5min: Liverpool win a corner and work it to Salah, who is closed down but Mac Allister is poised for a shot at goal which he sends wide.
17:36 , Alex Young
3min: An end-to-end start, here. Both Son and Salah getting sights of goal but nothing of real note in terms of chances.
Kick-off!
17:31 , Alex Young
1min: Here we go!
17:27 , Alex Young
Almost time.

“I asked Ange Postecoglou at yesterday’s press conference if Richarlison could start on the wing and the manager acknowledged that it was a possibility.
“He’s can often look a bit clunky in wide areas but adds intensity and a goal threat, so it’s a good option to have, with Ivan Perisic and Brennan Johnson injured, and Manor Solomon perhaps not ready for a game of this magnitude.”
Postecoglou on team news
17:20 , Alex Young
“He'll start on the left. Richy has been training really well since the international break and made a real impact last time he played, so hopefully he can do that today."
Klopp on team news
17:10 , Alex Young
“Darwin [Nunez] pretty much ruled himself out. He had a problem he’s been carrying since the international break. Sometimes it’s more painful than other times. The doctors agreed. We brought him here overnight, it’s improved but we start with Cody [Gakpo].”
16:59 , Alex Young
Richarlison will play on the left, with Heung-min Son through the middle. Here’s Dan Kilpatrick with more.
"Richarlison will play on the left."

So, Son and Maddison recover from knocks to start for Tottenham as Richarlison is recalled in place of the injured Johnson. Youngster Donley is on the bench.
Gakpo gets the nod up front over Nunez for Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold is fit enough for a place on the bench.

It sounds like Son, Maddison and Richarlison start for Spurs today. Salah returns, of course, for Liverpool with Jota and Nunez on the bench.
Ange a fan of Klopp

Spurs have also been a team on the rise since Postecoglou took charge, with a wave of optimism sweeping across the white half of North London after the club had their best start to a league season in 57 years.
While Postecoglou has only begun to leave his mark, the Australian praised Klopp for what the German had brought to not just Liverpool but the entire league, marvelling at their high-tempo playing style offensively and defensively.
"Jurgen is an outstanding manager, he's one the managers I think it's fair to say who has made an impact on the competition, not just his club," Postecoglou said.
"When he came in, with the way Liverpool went about things, he challenged quite a few of the conventions about the Premier League and introduced a new style of play that others have followed. It's a great test for where we are at the moment in terms of our development."

The atmosphere is building around the stadium. Team news is not too far off.
Klopp a fan of Ange
16:04 , Alex Young
Liverpool are braced for a tough Premier League match against Tottenham, said Jurgen Klopp said while lavishing praise on the north London side's new boss Ange Postecoglou.
Fourth-placed Spurs are enjoying their best start to a league season in 57 years, while Liverpool in second are chasing a sixth successive league win and eighth in all competitions.
Postecoglou, who finished his career at Scottish Premiership side Celtic with a domestic treble before joining Spurs in June, has his task cut out after the Premier League club finished eighth last season and sold record goalscorer Harry Kane to German champions Bayern Munich.
"It is a really tough test. I can't remember an easy game; we played at Newcastle (United), that was tough. Chelsea too; the away games have all been tough, and home games not easy," Klopp said,
"Tottenham is doing really well. Ange seems to be a top bloke; I'm looking forward to meeting him. If you saw Celtic play, you'd know how good a coach he is. He is delivering good football in a year when Harry Kane left. He is doing extremely well; they are exciting to watch. It'll be a test for both of us."

“Darwin Nunez is finally settling in and scoring goals. Patience is a virtue. Let's hope Nunez continues. Liverpool's unblemished record is a statement, and you can only praise them at the moment.
“I think it'll be a tough game, and Spurs need to be ready and take chances.
“Liverpool have serious attacking power. Look at Nunez, Salah, and others. Both teams have players who can score goals.
“Maddison and Son are either scoring or creating goals. Their midfield also looks solid. They're taking chances and enjoying their football.
“I'm expecting the usual suspects to show up against Liverpool unless they score a set-piece goal. Maybe Richarlison will start and score - but we'll wait and see.
“Spurs 2-1 Liverpool.”

Postecoglou’s love for Liverpool
15:40 , Alex Young
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou says Liverpool's trophy-laden era during the 1970s' and 1980s' planted the seeds for him to become a manager.
Postecoglou has made no secret of his childhood love for Liverpool and recalled on several occasions how he used to watch matches in the early hours of the morning in Australia with his dad Jim.
Kenny Dalglish was an early hero for the 58-year-old and he believes watching the teams of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley win European Cups helped shape his pathway to a coaching career that has seen him manage across the globe.
"I was just consumed by football," Postecoglou said. "I've said before, it wasn't just playing the game. My infatuation was with all the game, I wanted to read about it all and yeah I was fascinated by the culture at a club like Liverpool.
"The Boot Room, Shankly, Paisley, and Ronnie Moran, all those guys because I just loved reading about it. Just as I was interested reading about Sir Alex (Ferguson) or Jock Stein. It seemed that even at a young age I had a real fascination with managers and people of influence within the game because I loved the game.
"Certainly Liverpool at the time there was always a unique story there about this mythical boot room where all the magic happened. For me it was almost like reading fairytales all the time. Obviously that has an influence, yeah it does because that's where all the seeds are planted, my love for the game."
Score prediction
15:28 , Alex Young
Both are so good going forward but have problems defensively, a high-scoring draw seems likely.
2-2 draw.
Liverpool team news
15:20 , Alex Young
Trent Alexander-Arnold is to feature this afternoon. The right-back has not played since injuring his hamstring in the win over Aston Villa almost four weeks ago but has since returned to training, with Joe Gomez deputising since. It would be a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp, although a start is unlikely.
Thiago Alcantara is not available, while Stefan Bajcetic has suffered a setback.
Dominik Szoboszlai will return to the XI after a match-winning cameo against Leicester in the Carabao Cup, scoring his team’s second goal - a stunning long-range effort - as Liverpool came from behind to win 3-1. Diogo Jota also scored, but could drop to the bench in London.
Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah should make up the front three after reduced roles in the Cup. Salah was left out of the squad entirely.
Tottenham team news
15:13 , Alex Young
James Maddison and Heung-min Son will be assessed before the game. Both were forced off in the second half of last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal after Maddison had assisted Son’s two goals.
Brennan Johnson will definitely miss the game, having pulled up with a suspected hamstring injury in the second half at the Emirates.
Postecoglou could bring Manor Solomon back into the XI in a straight swap for the deadline-day signing or use Richarlison through the middle and move Son wide left.
Solomon’s return to the side would cause the least disruption and the Israeli’s work rate would be helpful if Trent Alexander-Arnold is fit to start, and therefore seems the likeliest scenario.
Elsewhere, Postecoglou is unlikely to make any changes to his side, who are looking to maintain their unbeaten start against the high-flying Reds.
