Tottenham vs West Ham LIVE! Pre-season friendly result, match stream, latest reaction and updates today

Tottenham vs West Ham - LIVE!

The Ange Postecoglou era at Tottenham began in entertaining but ultimately losing fashion as West Ham picked up a 3-2 win in Perth.

Tottenham had much the better of the first half, but went into the break two goals down, as headers from Danny Ings and Divin Mubama made them pay for some poor set-piece defending. Postecoglou made 11 changes at the break but the pattern was the same, Spurs continuing to create chances at regular intervals.

Giovani Lo Celso pulled one back as he volleyed past Lukasz Fabianski, before Destiny Udogie marked his first appearance for the club with an equaliser a couple of minutes later, flicking a header into the far corner. It was at the other end though that the winner came. Pablo Fornals slide a ball through Tottenham’s high line for Gianluca Scamacca, who made no mistake with the finish to make it three wins from three for West Ham in pre-season.

Postecoglou takes blame for defensive shortcomings

14:25 , Matt Verri

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou says he should take the blame for Spurs’ defensive woes against West Ham.

“The goals we conceded are partly on me - we haven’t done loads of work on those kind of defensive areas and structures around set-pieces and stuff,” said Postecoglou.

“I can’t expect the guys to take everything on board. I thought for the most part defensively the pressure was really good and we didn’t allow too many chances as you said.

“But we don’t want to be conceding goals with them producing a small number of chances.

“But that’s not the sort of stuff worked on. There are still things in our structure where we could have moved the ball quicker and guys aren’t in exactly the position they need to be.

West Ham player ratings

13:34 , Matt Verri

Jarrod Bowen 8 | Star player

Looked really sharp and caused Sergio Reguilon plenty of problems. Setup the opening goal with a good cross.

Freddie Potts 7

Looked neat and tidy in midfield. Still only 19, but looks like a player who could get some minutes in the first team this season.

Tottenham player ratings

Harry Kane 5

A quiet performance from the striker, who was captain. Didn’t have a chance of note and struggled to get into the game.

Manor Solomon 7

Just about Tottenham’s best player during the first-half and looked very lively cutting inside. Unlucky not to score or assist.

Destiny Udogie (Reguilon 45’) 8

Chalk and cheese when you compare him and Reguilon. Scored to top off an impressive performance.

A win for West Ham and the Postecoglou era starts with a defeat for Spurs. Positives for him, though, as Tottenham looked good going forward. Work to do in defence.

West Ham good on the counter - Bowen looks sharp.

Scamacca’s winner...

13:06 , Matt Verri

FT: Tottenham 2-3 West Ham

13:02 , Matt Verri

Victory for West Ham, who make it three wins from three in pre-season.

Tottenham dominant for pretty much the whole match though, plenty of positives for them. Wasteful finishing and some poor defending costs them though.

13:01 , Matt Verri

90+3 mins: Smiles from Fabianski, as he falls on the ball. Sarr tried his luck from distance, blocked and spins away... West Ham goalkeeper prevents it going behind.

That should be that.

12:58 , Matt Verri

90 mins: Four minutes added on.

Royal looks to bundle his way through the West Ham defence, but the door is slammed shut. The Hammers sitting very deep as they look to see this out.

12:56 , Matt Verri

88 mins: Ball cut back into the West Ham box, plenty of white shirts in there. Sanchez not really the one Tottenham wanted it to fall to though, and he stabs an effort straight at Fabianski.

For all their dominance, looks like Tottenham will begin their pre-season schedule with a defeat.

12:52 , Matt Verri

85 mins: Earthy on for Bowen, who has been much quieter since the break.

Tottenham meanwhile continue to come forward, Lo Celso whips the cross into the box and Chesters nods it behind for a corner.

12:49 , Matt Verri

82 mins: Richarlison goes for a very acrobatic effort... can’t pull it off.

West Ham have got a bit more control back now since that goal, having looked ragged as Tottenham scored that quickfire double.

GOAL! Tottenham 2-3 West Ham | Gianluca Scamacca 78'

12:46 , Matt Verri

West Ham back in front!

Comes out of nowhere, but they don’t care. High line from Spurs, ball played through by Fornals and Scamacca is in.

Sanchez can’t catch him, and the Italian guides the finish past Austin.

12:41 , Matt Verri

74 mins: West Ham looking tired now, Spurs all over them.

Would almost be a surprise if Tottenham didn’t win this match from here, they are absolutely flying.

Perisic again down the left, low ball into the middle and it’s just about cleared before Richarlison can get on the end of it.

GOAL! Tottenham 2-2 West Ham | Destiny Udogie 72'

12:39 , Matt Verri

Spurs are level!

West Ham this time let themselves down from a set piece. Corner to the near post, Udogie flicks it into the far corner and he has a goal on debut!

Simon Collings at the Optus Stadium

12:38 , Matt Verri

Biblical rain here but Postecoglou is unmoved. No chance of him going ‘Full McLaren’ and digging out the umbrella.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-2 West Ham | Giovani Lo Celso 68'

12:36 , Matt Verri

It’s been coming!

At last Tottenham have the goal they deserve. Ball into the box, Sanchez’s header falls for Lo Celso and he lashes the volley low beyond Fabianski.

12:32 , Matt Verri

65 mins: Lo Celso and, you guessed it, Richarlison involved as Tottenham open up West Ham again. Neither in a rush to get a shot away, the Brazilian eventually does and it’s turned behind.

Corner once again comes to nothing for Spurs.

12:31 , Matt Verri

64 mins: Richarlison is... not having a great time of it.

Udogie with a brilliant run from deep in his own half, so quick and he strides into West Ham territory.

Plays the ball inside to Richarlison, who goes for the one-two but makes a mess of it and sends it straight out for a goal-kick.

12:29 , Matt Verri

62 mins: Richarlison with a half-chance this time, ball clipped into the box Perisic and the Brazilian flicks a header wide of the far post.

Some finishing practice and defending set-pieces will be high on the agenda for Postecoglou in the coming days...

12:27 , Matt Verri

60 mins: Off the woodwork!

Richarlison very nearly halves the deficit. Lo Celso with a lovely pass in behind, Richarlison gets it onto his right foot and curls an effort towards the far corner as he loses his balance... off the outsode of the post.

First yellow card of the match follows, Royal with a lunge on Emerson.

12:25 , Matt Verri

58 mins: This referee has been giving free-kicks based on appeals all match.

He initially waves down as Ings wins the ball back, but the Spurs bench are on their feet and the official eventually gives in.

Moyes turns to his bench for the first time - Scamacca replaces Ings, Swyer on for Mubama.

Simon Collings at the Optus Stadium

12:23 , Matt Verri

A sign of where these two sides are in their pre-seasons that Spurs made 11 changes at the break - and West Ham made none.

Or maybe Moyes wants those London bragging rights.

12:22 , Matt Verri

54 mins: Feels like Fabianski is the only West Ham player who’s had a touch of the ball since the break, and that was only to punt it up the pitch.

He’ll have another chance too, Richarlison offside as he looks to burst inside.

The Brazilian has managed to hurt Zouma in the process of getting the shot away, Frenchman was caught awkwardly. He’ll be fine to continue.

12:18 , Matt Verri

51 mins: Well that would have been outrageous.

One-touch passing on the edge of the box, lifted to Royal and he volleys at goal from 20 yards out. Caught it well, just over the bar though.

12:17 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Yet another corner for Spurs, who haven’t made enough of these throughout the match.

This isn’t great either, taken short and they end up on the halfway line. Doubt that was the plan.

12:14 , Matt Verri

47 mins: All those changes but it’s more of the same!

Richarlison in behind after a lovely pass from Hojbjerg, he plays the ball into the six-yard box but Perisic is unable to turn it in from close range.

It looks like West Ham haven’t made any changes at the break.

Back underway!

12:12 , Matt Verri

Up and running once again in Perth.

A full 11 changes for Spurs - Postecoglou has changed his entire side at the break.

Austin, Emerson, Sanchez, Davies, Udogie, Perisic, Hojbjerg, Sarr, Devine, Lo Celso and Richarlison are all on.

12:07 , Matt Verri

Skipp has been impressive for Spurs, getting forward regularly and he could easily have had a goal or two. Solomon good too - Maddison fairly quiet on his debut.

Reguilon offering plenty in attack, but he’s really struggled at the back. Bowen has been superb down that right wing, he’s got the beating of the Spurs left-back every single time.

How Ings opened the scoring...

12:01 , Matt Verri

Simon Collings at the Optus Stadium

11:57 , Matt Verri

Spurs bright and look good going forward, but vulnerable at back. Bowen causing Reguilon problems down his flank.

Solomon been bright for Tottenham, Maddison sharp in moments too.

HT: Tottenham 0-2 West Ham

11:55 , Matt Verri

And that’s half-time.

West Ham 2-0 up, thanks to headers from Ings and Mubama.

Tottenham have been the better team, so many chances. Kulusevski, Bissouma, Skipp, Solomon, Romero... they could have all scored.

Bowen looks really lively for West Ham though, Reguilon struggling in defence. A lot.

11:53 , Matt Verri

45+1 mins: Two minutes added on... it’s nearly 3-0!

Out of nowhere West Ham are on the attack, Bowen allowed to drift inside onto that left foot. Shot is dragged towards the bottom corner, Vicario down well to keep that out.

11:52 , Matt Verri

45 mins: And another chance goes!

Brilliant footwork from Kulusevski, he lays it off to Reguilon. Flicked to Solomon, tame effort though and Fabianski can save that easily enough.

Solomon was cleaned out by Bowen in the process... referee not interested though.

11:49 , Matt Verri

42 mins: What a miss!

Tottenham have had so many chances. Tanganga at the back post, turns the ball across the face of goal.

It comes to Kane, he smashes it back across and Romero somehow fails to make decent contact from six yards out.

11:48 , Matt Verri

41 mins: Constant Spurs pressure. Lovely move sees Bissouma skip into the box, denied from close range.

Another couple of corners, as Kulusevski’s volley is deflected behind. And they will have another one, as Emerson comes across and halts Maddison’s progress.

11:45 , Matt Verri

37 mins: More like it from Tottenham, as Solomon takes matters into his own hands.

Cuts in off the left, onto his right foot and whips a curling effort at goal from 25 yards out. Comfortable enough for Fabianski, parries it away to safety.

Spurs stay on the attack from the corner, clipped into the box and Maddison heads straight at Fabianski.

11:42 , Matt Verri

34 mins: Porro gets in down the right, fires the cross into the box and Ogbonna turns it behind for a corner. Again Skipp was in the six-yard box, he’s had a really advanced role.

Bissouma looks to keep the attack alive, but Downes gets his body in the way and sees the ball out for a goal-kick.

11:39 , Matt Verri

32 mins: Ings bounced into by Tanganga as he looks to hold the ball up, gets the free-kick. Bit soft that.

Pace of the match has definitely slowed down since those goals, Spurs not quite offering the same threat in attack.

11:37 , Matt Verri

29 mins: Here come West Ham again on the counter, Bowen looks to send Ings away on goal but Tanganga reads it.

That high line from Spurs is there to be exploited though, so much space.

West Ham dominant in the air!

11:36 , Matt Verri

11:33 , Matt Verri

26 mins: Spurs free-kick, 25 yards out. Step forward James Maddison.

Bit of an anti-climax, smacked low into the wall. Behind for a corner, which is swung in and headed out by West Ham.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-2 West Ham | Divin Mubama 23'

11:31 , Matt Verri

Make that 2-0!

Vicario closed down, and he can only pass the ball straight out for a corner.

It’s taken quickly, Spurs not ready. Emerson whips the ball in, Mubama there at the near post and he flicks a header into the far corner.

11:29 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Fabianski taking his time over a goal kick, then wastes a few more seconds by urging everyone up the pitch.

Pre-season friendly? 20 minutes in? Who cares.

Simon Collings at the Optus Stadium

11:28 , Matt Verri

Not the greatest defending from Reguilon. Far too weak at the back post as Ings beats him to the cross. Not good.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 West Ham | Danny Ings 18'

11:26 , Matt Verri

West Ham take the lead!

Tottenham’s good start counts for nothing. Corner is initially cleared, but it comes back out to Bowen. He clips the ball into the middle, Ings is there at the back post and and heads home. Vicario couldn’t get down in time.

11:24 , Matt Verri

16 mins: Kulusevski inside onto his left foot, four Spurs players to pick out in the box... can’t find any of them.

This time Tottenham are caught as West Ham win it back, Kane wisely halts that by bringing Mubama down.

Looks like a fun team to be a full-back in... Porro and Reguilon not doing much defending. That almost costs Spurs as Bowen bursts into the box, Vicario down to keep his effort out.

11:23 , Matt Verri

15 mins: West Ham have already had a couple of pre-season games, but they’re struggling a bit so far. Tottenham have come flying out of the blocks.

Fair to say Postecoglou was not lying when he promised entertainment...

Simon Collings at the Optus Stadium

11:20 , Matt Verri

Bright start from Manor Solomon on his first appearance for Spurs.

Reguilon is bombing forward from left-back and it’s creating space for the winger. He’s been Spurs’ biggest threat so far.

11:20 , Matt Verri

12 mins: Ings is in behind the Tottenham defence, pretty tame effort and it’s comfortably saved by Vicario.

Offside flag is up - think the West Ham striker knew he was well off.

There will be chances for West Ham though, it’s a very high line from the Tottenham back four.

11:17 , Matt Verri

9 mins: Postecoglou will be happy with what he’s seen from his side so far.

It’s a very attacking shape, full-backs are pushing right up. Reguilon slides it inside to Kulusevski, hammers an effort at goal. Parried away.

11:15 , Matt Verri

7 mins: Should be 1-0!

Again Skipp is the man bursting forward from midfield, his touch takes him into the six-yard box but Fabianski smothers the flicked effort.

Spurs stay on the attack, Kulusevski looks to find Kane but it’s just behind the striker.

11:12 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Bowen gets his first chance to run with the ball, his cross is charged down by Reguilon. West Ham corner.

It’s Bowen to swing it in, headed out and Bissouma then completes the job.

Commentary on this coverage is so far behind the pictures that I think Martin Jol might still be in the dugout.

11:10 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Confident start from Spurs, Skipp making the run in behind and he cuts the ball back... Zouma there and clears the danger.

Bissouma the deepest of the Spurs midfielders, Reguilon has been tucking inside into a pretty central position though.

Simon Collings at the Optus Stadium

11:08 , Matt Verri

The post Declan Rice captaincy era has kicked off with Lukasz Fabianski being skipper on West Ham’s Twitter teamsheet, but the official one in the stadium is Angelo Obgonna.

Seems Ogbonna has the physical armband too now.

KICK-OFF!

11:08 , Matt Verri

Up and running in Perth!

11:05 , Matt Verri

We’ve got a didgeridoo as part of a pre-match performance. That was... nice. Traditional welcoming ceremony.

Right, we actually are now ready to begin.

11:02 , Matt Verri

All sorts of pyrotechnics going on. Would be nice to have some football to go with it.

Ah, here we go. Teams are out onto the pitch, kick-off coming up very shortly!

Five minute warning!

10:56 , Matt Verri

Warm-ups done... very nearly time to get up and running in Perth.

West Ham are further along in their pre-season preparations, having already played two matches, so they should have a fitness edge.

You’d say the Tottenham side is the stronger one though, so it could balance itself out.

Simon Collings at the Optus Stadium

10:52 , Matt Verri

Kick-off in just over 20 minutes!

10:42 , Matt Verri

Bowen at the double

10:37 , Matt Verri

Eight goals in the match, six for West Ham... plenty to enjoy when the Hammers faced Perth Glory at this very stadium a few days ago.

Bowen started that match on the bench but still got himself a couple of goals as Moyes’ side cruised to victory.

Postecoglou: Kane totally committed to Tottenham

10:30 , Matt Verri

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou insists Harry Kane will not be impacted by speculation surrounding his future and the striker is “totally committed” to Spurs while at the club.

Kane has entered the final 12 months of his contract and Tottenham have rejected two bids from Bayern Munich for him, the latest of which was understood to be worth around £70million plus add-ons.

The 29-year-old is open to a move to the German champions and ex-president, and current board member, Uli Hoeness claimed on Saturday that “[Kane] has very clearly signaled that his decision was made. If he keeps his word, we’ll get him.”

Kane, will not, however, force through a move and Postecoglou has no concerns over the striker’s frame of mind.

“There are a lot of people that know Harry better than me but he’s not going to get fazed by anything,” Postecoglou told reporters in Australia, where the squad have touched down for the first part of their pre-season tour.

“He’s here and while he’s here, he’s totally committed to what we’re doing. That’s the way I’ve seen things.”

Moyes in no rush to name new captain

10:22 , Matt Verri

West Ham will not rush to appoint a new captain in the wake of Declan Rice joining Arsenal.

Rice completed his £105million move to the Gunners on Saturday, signing a five-year contract with the option for a further 12 months. It leaves West Ham needing a new captain after Rice took over from previous skipper Mark Noble last summer.

“It’s only just happened (Rice leaving) a day or so ago, so we’ve got time to think about it,” Moyes said earlier this week. “It will be decided by myself.

“I think a captain is hugely important. I have had some great boys who have captained my teams over the years.

“Mark Noble was exceptional for West Ham. Phil Neville was exceptional for Everton for me. Declan was great in the short period here he was captain at West Ham.

“So we will look closely to see what is the right choice and we have got a bit of time before the season starts and [when] we need to make a decision on that. Players come and go from all clubs, so not just our club.”

New faces for Spurs!

10:13 , Matt Verri

Three debuts for Tottenham - Vicario in goal, Maddison in midfield and Solomon in the front three. Kane leads the line as expected, with Kulusevski also starting. Son and Ndombele among those not in the squad.

For West Ham, Bowen starts and it’s Mubama and Ings leading the line. Emerson gets the nod over Cresswell at left-back, with Potts and Downes in midfield.

Captaincy decision to wait

09:54 , Matt Verri

Hugo Lloris not on the tour as he looks to leave, uncertainty over Harry Kane’s future - who will be Tottenham’s captain this season? Ange Postecoglou is in no rush to make a decision.

“It’s about me getting to know the group and allowing that to develop,” the Spurs said. “Some of those things you’re better off letting it grow organically rather than forcing things and having preconceived ideas.

“I just want to see how the group works. And like I say, so far the whole group has been really strong in terms of committing to what we’re going to do, and that’s what you want to see.

“Within that you see individuals who will look to lead. And they all lead in different ways. It’s not always the loudest or the highest profile, it’s sometimes by actions and what I’m looking for is leadership within the whole group.

“Guys that are prepared to take some responsibility for what we’re about to embark on.”

West Ham offers rejected

09:45 , Matt Verri

West Ham have had offers for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha and Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire rejected as the club look to kickstart their post-Declan Rice spending spree.

The Hammers have had a bid worth up to £45million for Palhinha knocked back by Fulham, while a loan offer for Maguire has also been turned down.

The Scot plans to sign two midfielders to replace the England international, with Palhinha a leading target, alongside Ajax’s Edson Alvarez and Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

However, Fulham are under no pressure to sell the Portuguese, who enjoyed a superb first season in English football after signing from Sporting last summer, and value the midfielder at more than £80m.

United are hoping to boost their own transfer kitty by selling Maguire, who cost them £80m four years ago. West Ham would, however, prefer a loan deal, with a permanent signing deemed an expensive risk given the 30-year-old’s age and wage demands.

Postecoglou: Lloris hoping for move

09:24 , Matt Verri

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Hugo Lloris chose not to join the club’s pre-season tour as he is “hoping for a move somewhere else.”

Lloris has one year left on his contract and publicly admitted last month that he is open to a new challenge.

It means the goalkeeper’s final appearance for Tottenham after 11 years at the club will likely be a half-time withdrawal due to injury with Spurs 5-0 down to Newcastle in April.

“Yeah I had a good chat with Hugo,” said Postecoglou. “He’s been an outstanding servant for this football club for quite a long time. Captain of the club, and has left an indelible mark on Tottenham Hotspur football club.

“I had a chat with him and he felt that he’s hoping for a move somewhere else so he can play and begin the next phase of his career. I left it up to him whether he wanted to come along because I think he deserves that respect to garner the direction of his own future - because of his standing.

“I’ve only had two or three chats with him but even in training I can see he’s not only an outstanding goalkeeper but an outstanding human being.”

Moyes backs Postecoglou to cope with spotlight

09:08 , Matt Verri

West Ham boss David Moyes is adamant Ange Postecoglou can handle the pressure of being Tottenham manager due to his stint at Celtic.

Postecoglou was appointed at Spurs this summer after spending the past two seasons with the Glasgow giants, where he won the Scottish title both years and the domestic treble before leaving.

Tottenham is the most high-profile job of the 57-year-old’s career, though, and he has the task of rebuilding the club after a disappointing season.

Moyes, however, has backed Postecoglou to cope with the spotlight after dealing with the heat when coaching Celtic.

“He will never get more pressure than he did managing Celtic Football Club,” said Moyes, who began his playing career at Parkhead.

“Celtic Football Club are probably the third or fourth best supported club in the world, and if you manage Celtic Football Club you are used to pressure. So he will have no problem.”

Standard Sport prediction

09:00 , Matt Verri

There have been 13 goals across West Ham’s first two pre-season friendlies, and that theme could continue as they come up against a Spurs side promising attacking football.

Postecoglou will be keen for his side to make an impression, even if they are slightly behind West Ham in terms of fitness with this being their opening friendly fixture.

Spurs are likely to name a stronger side though, and can come out on top in an entertaining clash.

Tottenham to win, 3-1.

West Ham team news

08:53 , Matt Verri

West Ham continue life without Declan Rice, after the midfielder’s £105m move to Arsenal.

Lukasz Fabianski was captain against Perth Glory but had little to do between the sticks as the likes of Daniel Chesters, Gianluca Scamacca, Jarrod Bowen and Divin Mubama were all heavily involved up the other end.

Chester deserves another start after notching two assists, and Bowen should get the nod alongside him after coming off the bench against weaker opposition and scoring twice.

Scamacca wants to leave but should be given another opportunity to show his worth, with Danny Ings getting more of an outing given fellow forward Michael Antonio is yet to join the squad. Lucas Paqueta, Said Benrahma and Ben Johnson are also absent.

West Ham predicted XI: Fabianski; Laing, Zouma, Luizao, Cresswell; Bowen, Downes, Chesters, Fornals; Ings, Scamacca

Tottenham team news

Tottenham could today hand debuts to four players this morning

Spurs have enjoyed a busy start to the summer transfer window, adding James Maddison, Manor Solomon and Guglielmo Vicario, while also confirming the permanent signings of both Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro.

Those three new recruits could all get their first minutes as Spurs players on Perth on Tuesday along with Destiny Udogie, who was signed from Udinese last summer but remained in Italy for the season.

Harry Kane, despite the continued speculation over his future, should lead the team out in Perth as captain, with current skipper Hugo Lloris staying at home to finalise a move away.

Ange Postecoglou has included the likes of outcasts Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in his tour squad, who will be given a chance to impress the new manager - should they wish - in the new 4-3-3 formation the Australian prefers.

Tottenham predicted XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Dier, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison; Richarlison, Kane, Son
