Tottenham wonderkid transfer decision looming as clubs start to queue up to take him away

The interest in Jamie Donley is growing with every passing week to leave Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou with a decision to make this summer.

The 19-year-old was Spurs' standout academy star last season with 17 assists and eight goals for the Under-21s in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy, with another flurry of goal involvements in the Premier League Cup. Donley has been transformed in the past two years from a forward into a deeper lying playmaker in the midfield and his development has surged forward as a result.

Postecoglou rewarded his progress with minutes in the Premier League against Manchester City, Newcastle and Brentford as well as an FA Cup debut against Burnley. Donley was then among the young players taken out with the first team to play in Spurs' post-season friendly match against Newcastle in Melbourne.

While Tottenham are not believed to be willing to sell Donley, football.london understands that Luton Town, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, are very keen on taking him on loan, with fellow Championship sides Oxford United and Bristol City also circling.

Their local rivals Bristol Rovers are also believed to have an interest in giving the teenager regular League One football, while former Spurs assistant manager Chris Davies is expected to keep an eye on matters with his new club Birmingham City after being impressed by Donley last season at the north London club.

Donley is set to work with Postecoglou and the first team from this weekend onwards as they return for pre-season at Hotspur Way and the teenager is expected to be involved in the coming friendlies and could be taken on Tottenham's upcoming summer tour to Japan and South Korea at the end of July.

Donley has reached the same stage as Alfie Devine did last season in impressing the first team coaches but also needing regular first team football to continue that development. After impressing Postecoglou last summer, Devine went on loan first to Port Vale in League One for the opening half of the campaign and then Championship side Plymouth Argyle from January onwards.

The other issue for Donley is that Tottenham have a large number of players who can play in Postecoglou's No.8 role, including two more 18-year-olds who arrive this summer in the shape of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, to add to options in that role that are likely to contain James Maddison, Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur and potentially Oliver Skipp, while the club are continuing to look at other options in the transfer market.

Devine is also currently back from his loan season away while Postecoglou has been impressed by 18-year-old academy midfielder Tyrese Hall, who was on the bench against Manchester City in the penultimate Premier League game of last season and is expected to be involved in pre-season with the first team.

Then there is 16-year-old academy star Mikey Moore who has already got two Premier League appearances to his name after wowing Postecoglou in training. The teenager mostly plays further up the pitch but could play as a No.10 or No.8 as his development continues.

Moore is expected to be involved with Postecoglou's squad in pre-season. Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are circling around the youngster who technically has agreed his first professional deal with Spurs but will not officially sign it until his 17th birthday on August 11, which means he isn't locked down just yet.

The youngster is believed to be happy at Spurs and turned down most of England and Europe's top clubs last summer to remain in north London, but with that month of uncertainty ahead, it is also on Tottenham to show that Moore, despite his age, is part of their plans during this busy campaign ahead and that their summer transfer activity will not block his path and mean first team minutes will be more plentiful elsewhere over the coming season.
