Town wakes up to find roundabouts painted as England flags

People living in neighbouring seaside towns have woken up to find roundabouts turned into England flags.

A number of white mini roundabouts across Southwick and Shoreham have had two red lines drawn across them to create the St George' Cross.

This is believed to have been done overnight with less than 24 hours to go before England's second Euro 2024 match against Denmark, which begins at 5pm tonight.

Since spotting the new roundabout markings, including ones on Manor Hall Road in Southwick, people across the town seem delighted, sharing pictures on social media and calling them "brilliant".

Steve Rose, who has lived in the area for 30 years, said: "It's cool, it put a smile on my face and it wasn't there at midnight."

Amanda Taylor, who also lives nearby, said: "Love it. Neat job too."

Susan Curd said: "Great, I hope they do all of them."

A number of people also said the sight had made them smile on their daily commute.

Jon Grace said: "Saw it this morning, it made me smile."

Marie Abdul-Rahim said: "Love this, something that's not doom and gloom."

The mini roundabouts currently sporting this new look are on Manor Hall Road in Southwick, Middle Road in Shoreham and the Old Shoreham Road in Shoreham.

It has not been confirmed who is responsible for painting the red lines on the roundabouts.
