Transfer news and gossip: Man United prefer Sancho to Kane; Ronaldo latest; Tottenham eye Gabriel Jesus?

With Chelsea’s Champions League Final triumph over Manchester City in Porto bringing down the curtain on an eventful and hectic 2020/21 season, the transfer rumour mill is beginning to crank into overdrive once more.

This summer, the small matter of the rescheduled European Championship taking place across the continent plus other international competitions including the Copa America means that clubs could scramble to get their business done early or else be forced to wait until much later in the window.

While big deals are expected across the major teams, with the likes of Ibrahima Konate and David Alaba already on the move over recent days, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is still expected to have a sizable impact on the market as clubs continue to count the cost of the global crisis.

Here are the latest transfer headlines and gossip across the Premier League, Europe and beyond…

Can Manchester United be ruled out of the Harry Kane sweepstakes after all?

They are one of several clubs linked with the wantaway Tottenham striker, but the Daily Mail report that United will instead prioritise finally signing long-term target Jadon Sancho this summer.

With Edinson Cavani now safely signed up for another season, it is further claimed that United will wait a year before then going back to Borussia Dortmund for Norwegian goal machine Erling Haaland - a player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows very well.

Also on the United front, sensational reports coming out of Italy suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo could soon make a return to Old Trafford.

Gazzetta dello Sport believe that Juventus - who narrowly scraped Champions League qualification for next season on the final day - are interested in a high-profile swap that would see Paul Pogba make a return to Turin.

Manchester City surely stand as potentially Kane’s most likely suitors, with the Star on Sunday claiming that Spurs also hold an interest in Gabriel Jesus.

Could the beaten Champions League finalists potentially leverage that into their own part-exchange deal for the England captain this summer?

Elsewhere, Arsenal and Liverpool may just have seen their respective hopes of signing Yves Bissouma boosted.

Both clubs are said to be chasing the highly-rated Malian midfielder and Brighton chairman Tony Bloom has admitted that some of the Seagulls’ best players could be sold if the price is right.

“I don’t see it as a negative at all,” he said of interest from above in the likes of Bissouma and England call-up Ben White.

“The more big clubs that are interested in our players, the more we’re doing right, so I am delighted with that.

“We know that some of our best players aren’t going to be with us forever and, if the right offer comes along – and it has to be the right offer – and they want to leave, then they can go.

“But I foresee the vast majority of our current squad being here at the beginning of next season.”
