While president Joan Laporta has stressed Barca are not actively looking to sell De Jong, they could look to raise funds to land attacking targets.
Silva is understood to want a new challenge despite all of the success with City, while Lewandowski has asked to leave Bayern Munich.
Ligue 1 fire back
Thursday 26 May 2022 14:40 , Jonathan Gorrie
Ligue 1 have written to La Liga president Javier Tebas to complain about his “attacks on Paris Saint-Germain’s finances” after Kylian Mbappe’s huge new deal.
After Mbappe signed a new three-year contract at Qatari-owned PSG, Tebas said the Spanish league would file complaints to UEFA, the European Union and French administrative and fiscal authorities because it believes the "scandalous" agreement attacks the economic stability of the sport.
"We want to express in the strongest possible terms our disapproval, and also our incomprehension, of your latest attacks against Ligue 1 and one of our clubs," French league chairman Vincent Labrune said in a letter to Tebas on Wednesday that was obtained by The Associated Press.
"The fact that you publicly and repeatedly take this position against Ligue 1 on this topic and denigrate our league and our clubs is both unacceptable and manifestly false."
Tebas has long questioned the reliance of PSG on Qatari sponsorships, which he said are of "doubtful valuation," and doubted how the club could comply with rules given heavy losses.
Labrune wrote, "Your attacks on Ligue 1 and one of our clubs Paris Saint-Germain and one of our players Kylian Mbappe are based around your own interpretation of financial unsustainability and competitive imbalance, which you repeatedly attribute to Ligue 1 and one of our clubs."
Labrune pointed out that the European Court of Justice ruled Real Madrid and Barcelona benefitted from illegal state aid and how Spanish top division clubs have spent almost a third more on players than the French league in the last 10 years.
Labrune highlighted how Tebas in his role as a UEFA executive committee member helped to create new European financial sustainability rules. The replacement for Financial Fair Play has no rules blocking funding of clubs from sovereign wealth funds like Qatar.

Thursday 26 May 2022 13:54 , Jonathan Gorrie
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has labeled Edinson Cavani a ‘disgrace’ after a video emerged appearing to show the striker swearing at supporters.
The forward will leave Old Trafford this summer after a miserable campaign, one in which he made only 20 appearances across all competitions.
“Cavani I think was a disgrace this year, he hardly ever played. He pulled out of the Middlesbrough game because he had to travel back from wherever he was.
“Funnily enough, since that Middlesbrough game I think I heard last night United have won only five out of 18 games or something since then.
“It’s been embarrassing, this manager [Erik ten Hag] now needs backing. Who’s going to help him do that? The club upstairs is still a bit of a mess, we don’t really know.”

Thursday 26 May 2022 12:29 , Jonathan Gorrie

Veteran goalkeeper Fraser Forster yesterday underwent a medical at Spurs and is set to be their first signing of the summer on a free transfer from Southampton, with the 34-year-old set to deputise for club captain Hugo Lloris next season.
Pierluigi Gollini will return to Atalanta after spending the campaign on loan.

Lee Grant retires from football
Thursday 26 May 2022 12:21 , Jonathan Gorrie
The 39-year-old has spent the last few years as Manchester United’s third-choice goalkeeper and has now called an end to a career that began all the way back in 2000.
Grant started his career with Derby County and played almost 200 games for them over two spells, also pitching up at Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Stoke City.
“After 511 appearances, I’ve decided it’s the right time to move into the next stage of my career,” he said.
“There have been so many fun moments mixed in with the odd challenge, but I’m grateful for each and every one.
“Fulfilling a boyhood dream of playing for Manchester United was something I thought was out of reach, so to have achieved that fills me with great pride and emotion!
“Although I haven’t played as many games in the last four years, I’ve given everything to the group every single day on the training pitch and in the dressing room.
“The opportunity to join the biggest club in the world was one I could never turn down and I’m so grateful for the lessons learned and the friends I’ve gained.
“The opportunity to challenge, set standards and ultimately learn from some truly exceptional players and staff has been so valuable.”
Erling Haaland to Manchester City: The least romantic of the mega deals?
Thursday 26 May 2022 12:18 , Jonathan Gorrie
The Premier League‘s biggest signing of the summer was agreed before the curtain had come down on the season. Manchester City last week announced the capture of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, writes Dan Kilpatrick.
On the face of it, the deal should be exciting and even romantic. Joining City is a homecoming of sorts for Haaland, who was born in England and is returning to the club best associated with his father, Alf-Inge.
English football never had Cristiano Ronaldo in his prime and Lionel Messi is almost certain not to play on these shores, so the arrival of one of their natural successors in the Premier League, with his best years still ahead, should be intoxicating for most supporters.
Yet, the deal is not in the least bit romantic and is less thrilling for the English game than ominous; the only suitable reaction - for non-City fans at least - is a sigh and a shrug.

Thursday 26 May 2022 12:14 , Jonathan Gorrie
Lille’s Canada star has been looked at by Arsenal as they attempt to bring in a new striker this summer but their interest has cooled, writes Simon Collings.

Gabriel Jesus, however, is now understood to be the priority target.

Manchester United want Pau Torres ‘at all costs'
Thursday 26 May 2022 12:08 , Jonathan Gorrie
Spanish outlet Marca claim Villarreal defender Pau Torres is a target for Manchester United.
So much so, the club are said to want the Spanish international at ‘all costs’, with Erik Ten Hag having requested for a new centre-back as he begins his summer overhaul.
Quite where that would leave Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane remains to be seen, although Torres is believed to have emerged as a major target.
Indeed, the 25-year-old’s agents are thought to be ready to travel to Manchester this week to discuss the matter further.
West Ham ‘step up efforts’ to sign Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd
Thursday 26 May 2022 12:04 , Jonathan Gorrie
David Moyes is expected to be backed this summer after taking West Ham to the Europa League semi-final.
As impressive a season as it was, few would doubt the lack of options in his squad did come back to haunt Moyes, who blasted his team after the loss to Brighton on the final day.
Issa Diop could be sold this summer as West Ham reportedly line up a move for Morocco international, Nayef Aguerd.
The Rennes defender could cost as much as £15m and, according to the Daily Mail, the club have stepped up talks.
Jamie Carragher: Manchester United must sell Cristiano Ronaldo
Thursday 26 May 2022 11:58 , Jonathan Gorrie
The Cristiano Ronaldo debate goes on. While undoubtedly a brilliant goalscorer, whether or not a modern team can cater to his needs is a question to have lingered over the Portuguese great all season, even despite his 18 Premier League goals.
Erik Ten Hag is through the door at Old Trafford and has spoken about keeping the 37-year-old at the club, although Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes the Dutchman should make a major call on his future.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players of all time, and I’m seen as criticising him – Ronaldo is a million times better than I could ever be, I couldn’t lace his boots, obviously, but I’m not saying that to be disrespectful to him, he’s amazing,” he told Sky Sports’ The Overlap.
“But Ronaldo has never played in a team this bad, he’s played in some of the best teams and has the attitude of wanting to be the main man, trying to get the goals, driving people on, and when you’re in a great team, that’s something I’m seeing as a positive.
“When you’re not playing in a great team it can be something that is seen as a negative, and I think it has been a negative this season.
“Manchester United can’t go into next season with a centre forward who is going to be 38, even if he does score goals that’s not right for Man United.”
AC Milan buyout talks break down
Thursday 26 May 2022 11:46 , Jonathan Gorrie
While success has been delivered on the pitch after winning Serie A for the first time in over a decade, AC Milan’s potential buyout has collpased.
Reuters last week reported that Investcorp had put on hold its plans to purchase the club, which is owned by Elliott, clearing the way for U.S. investment firm RedBird to pursue a deal.
"We had discussions with Elliott about a potential investment in AC Milan. As can be the case with premium deals, a commercial agreement wasn’t reached, and we have mutually decided to end talks," Investcorp Executive Chairman Mohammed Al Ardhi said on Twitter on Thursday.
He did not give reasons for the failure of the talks but added: "We wish AC Milan the best for next season and beyond"
Investcorp was last month in exclusive negotiations to buy AC Milan from U.S fund Elliott, who took over the club in 2018 when Chinese businessman Li Yonghong failed to meet some obligations linked to a financing package after the purchase of the team from Silvio Berlusconi the year before.

Patrik Schik signs new Bayer Leverkusen contract
Thursday 26 May 2022 11:38 , Jonathan Gorrie
Linked with the likes of West Ham and Newcastle, the Czech Repbulic international will be staying in Germany.
Schick scored 24 goals in 27 games as Leverkusen finished third in the Bundesliga this season. His existing contract was due to run until 2025 but now runs until 202.
"I extended my contract until ‘27, so really happy that I can continue in Bayer," Schick said in a video message on social media.
Re-signing the "world class" striker, sporting director Simon Rolfes said in a statement, "underlines the ambition that we all have."
Schick is a tall, powerful forward with 17 goals in 33 games for the Czech Republic and scored five goals at last year’s European Championship, level with Cristiano Ronaldo for the most at the tournament. He was awarded the prize for goal of the tournament for scoring from just inside the halfway line against Scotland.

Almiron is thought to be high up on the list of potential departures after failing to wholly convince on Tyneside.
Chelsea set for attacking overhaul?
Thursday 26 May 2022 11:25 , Jonathan Gorrie
Thomas Tuchel has previously spoken of his desire to improve his attacking options once Todd Boehly’s takeover is given the green-light.
Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech could both depart, with Chelsea likely to get favourable returns on their investments for the pair.
Christian Pulisic continues to frustrate over his consistency and fitness, with the American also unhappy about the amount of opportunities Tuchel has given him.
But it would be a surprise for Boehly to sanction the sale of his countryman, who is such an iconic figure in the US.
Callum Hudson-Odoi is another who has failed to convince Tuchel, but there is an acceptance within the club that few suitors could meet his personal terms.

Louis Saha: Manchester United should STILL be attempting to sign Harry Kane
Thursday 26 May 2022 11:18 , Jonathan Gorrie
The former Manchester United striker was speaking to Lord Ping and urged the club to go all out for the Tottenham man.
“I’m scared that Man City are going to be stepping up even more and become even more hard to catch as they now have Haaland, a player who allows them to play long balls and counter-attacking football.
“If Man United or even Liverpool need to catch up, you need those additions and Kane guarantees 25 to 30 goals a season and I’m sure it’ll be a nice partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo.
“You can see [Kane is] enjoying his time at Spurs. His partnership with [Heung-min] Son is unbelievable.
“They can achieve a lot of things and they have a great manager but United still remains a very attractive destination – even if they aren’t in the Champions League.”
Fresh insight into Manchester United’s managerial decision emerges
Thursday 26 May 2022 11:08 , Jonathan Gorrie

United’s football director, John Murtough, has opened up on the decision to appoint the Dutchman, who saw off competition from a host of Europe’s top managers to land the role.
It is understood that Pochettino was his closest rival to take charge, with the Argentine also keen on a move to Old Trafford. But United opted for former Ajax boss Ten Hag, who was officially unveiled this week.
During detailed talks, Murtough revealed the new manager laid out a “long-term vision to build a successful, exciting team,” with “clarity and confidence.”

Sadio Mane discusses Real Madrid move
Thursday 26 May 2022 10:58 , Jonathan Gorrie
With Kylian Mbappe having rejected Real Madrid, the La Liga winners have naturally been linked with all sorts of names as they scramble for an alternative.
Sadio Mane, who will line-up against them in Saturday’s Champions League final, is one of them.
Speaking ahead of the Paris showpiece, however, the Liverpool forward was in no mood to discuss his future.
“Good question [about a potential move], but what I want to say is that right now I am fully, fully focused on the Champions League [final]. For me and for Liverpool fans, that is the most important thing.”

With Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane struggling to convince, central defence appears to be the main area Ten Hag is focusing on improving and towering Timber could well answer that call.
Tammy Abraham refuses to rule out Premier League return
Thursday 26 May 2022 09:37 , Jonathan Gorrie
Tammy Abraham has enjoyed a wonderful season with AS Roma, scoring 27 times across all competitions and winning the Europa Conference League in his first year.
Still, the former Chelsea forward - who Arsenal have been linked with - refused to rule out a potential return to England.
“I would say I’m more than happy here,” he told BT Sport.
“Just the experience here, I had the experience of just the derby game. Derby games of course are big, but here they filled the roads weeks before the game. That’s all they were talking about.
“We had another game before it, they [the fans] weren’t even talking about that game, they were saying, “We have to beat Lazio”. Just the rivalry, the atmosphere in the stadium, just everything is incredible.
“So I’m happy here. You never know what the future holds, you can’t write the future, but as far as it is I’m satisfied.”
