The 19-year-old is expected to choose the Hammers over Brighton, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt, in a major coup for David Moyes’s side.

Fulham risk losing Silva and Mitrovic

20:20 , Matt Verri

Al-Ahli have offered Fulham manager Marco Silva a two-year deal worth around £40million, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

The 46-year-old continues to mull over a decision between life-changing money or staying in the Premier League, which he believes will further his career.

The dilemma lies solely with Silva, who has a £6m release clause in his contract which the Cottagers powerless to stop his exit.

Silva’s future could also be tied to that of his star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has seen Fulham turn down several bids from Al-Hilal despite wanting to move to Saudi Arabia.

Onana sends message to Inter fans...

19:23 , Matt Verri

He was only at Inter Milan for a season, but Andre Onana has decided words aren’t enough as he discusses his departure.

We’ve got a montage, complete with the standard emotional soundtrack, as he reflects on his, very short, time in Italy.

Onana: Incredible honour to complete move

19:08 , Matt Verri

Andre Onana has told the Manchester United supporters that he is “determined to deliver” for the club after completing his £47m move from Inter Milan.

The goalkeeper has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option to extend by a further 12 months, and once again joins up with Erik ten Hag, who he worked with at Ajax.

“To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way.

“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new team-mates, and new ambitions to fight for.

“Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years. I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.”

Man City sell Trafford to Burnley after England U21 heroics

18:53 , George Flood

As one goalkeeper arrives in Manchester, another departs.

City have completed the sale of James Trafford to Vincent Kompany’s newly-promoted Burnley in a deal worth an initial £15m plus £4m add-ons.

Trafford’s stock is high after shining on loan at Bolton last term before starring for England on their path to European Under-21 Championship glory this summer, not conceding a single goal throughout the whole tournament.

He saved a last-gasp penalty in the final against Spain in Georgia to prevent extra-time and seal the Young Lions’ first success in the tournament since 1984.

Trafford said: “I feel very happy to officially be a Burnley player. I was excited for it to all get done whilst the Euros was going on, I knew a lot about it and I was waiting to get back to make it all official really.

“I want to improve and learn as much as I can here and as a team. I just want to take it a day at a time and try and achieve as much as we can going forward.”

Onana confirms Man United move in Inter farewell message

18:24 , George Flood

Speaking of Manchester United, the Andre Onana deal is finally set to be confirmed.

The Cameroon goalkeeper has been pictured today at Manchester Airport waiting for a flight to New York to join up with his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of the United States, having reportedly signed a five-year contract with the option for a further 12 months and successfully passed his medical.

A £47.2m deal was finally agreed between United and Inter earlier this week after protracted negotiations between the two clubs.

An official announcement must now be imminent, with Onana having bid an emotional farewell to Inter Milan fans on social media and confirmed his “new journey in Manchester”.

Onana wrote on Instagram: “I fell in love with San Siro, la Curva and the city. Now the circumstances are right for me to start a new journey in Manchester.

“I do it with great enthusiasm, but knowing that I will miss you. Eternal gratitude to all the ‘Interisti’. You make this club great.”

Bruno Fernandes named new Man United captain

18:18 , George Flood

Bruno Fernandes has been officially confirmed as the new captain of Manchester United.

As expected, the influential Portuguese midfielder has been appointed as the full-time replacement for Harry Maguire, who was stripped of the armband last week after three-and-a-half years following talks with manager Erik ten Hag.

Fernandes is certainly no stranger to captaining United, having stepped up to lead the team on many occasions last season with Maguire struggling for regular starts.

“Bruno Fernandes has been named as the new club captain of Manchester United,” the club announced on Thursday after embarking on their pre-season trip to the United States, where they face Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

 (AP)
(AP)

“The Portuguese midfielder has already worn the armband for United on numerous occasions and Erik ten Hag has confirmed that he will now lead the team on a permanent basis.

“Fernandes has scored 64 goals and contributed 54 assists in just 185 games for the club since joining in 2020.

“As captain, the two-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year will continue to drive the highest standards throughout the squad as United push for success in the 2023/24 season and beyond.”

Kylian Mbappe transfer news

14:57 , Jonathan Gorrie

Arsenal are believed to be one of the Premier League teams Kylian Mbappe would be open to joining should a move to Real Madrid fail to come to fruition.

But could the Gunners afford him? According to football finance expert at Sheffield Business School, Dr Rob Wilson, they could.

Wilson was speaking to renowned UK Youtube channel FruitySlots.com: "Kylian Mbappe does make financial sense for Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle. He’s young enough, still. He’s an iconic sportsman playing at a second-tier French club. PSG generally speaking are second-tier.

"It’s an opportunity to deliver huge brand leverage which I don’t think has been optimised for PSG. You have Nike and the Jordan brand but he’s in the Messi-Ronaldo bracket, or David Beckham in years before. I think moving to a club with the sort of global reach of Man Utd or Real Madrid would be game-changing for him.

"But the acquisition value means there’s a lot of pressure for him to perform on the pitch. He’s built his brand on being in the French national team and then a little bit of success for PSG. He makes absolute sense to Real, Man Utd or Barcelona.

"You’re always looking for these superstars for brand alignment, and I think you get that with Man Utd or Real.

"It would be realistic if the Qataris took over Man Utd and the clear involvement they have with PSG."

"We know he's a really experienced player, but also a very good person with a big personality and authority. He can help the young players, especially. It benefits both sides."

Solomon on Spurs move

Wednesday 19 July 2023 12:16 , Alex Young

Manor Solomon says his decision to join Tottenham was a no-brainer despite an “amazing” year at Fulham, and insists the Premier League has only seen a glimpse of his potential.

Solomon spent last season on loan at Fulham but turned down a chance to stay at Craven Cottage to instead sign for Spurs on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk.

“I had an amazing time at Fulham,” said the winger, who scored five goals in 24 games for the Cottagers. “I had a really good bond with the fans and Fulham, from the first moment, they were really kind.

“But when you have the opportunity to come to a big club like Spurs, and if the manager wants you, it is really hard to say no. So immediately when I heard about Spurs, I wanted to come here. It is a big opportunity for me.”

Saint-Maximin out as Barnes comes in

Wednesday 19 July 2023 09:14 , Alex Young

Eddie Howe confirmed Allan Saint-Maximin is set to leave the club as Harvey Barnes looks likely to join.

The 26-year-old become a cult favourite after joining from Nice in August 2019 but a string of inconsistent displays has seen him drop down the pecking order. Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli are reportedly interested.

That would allow Leicester midfielder Barnes to come in, with Howe confirming the richest club in the world need to sell to buy.

Manager Howe said: "Allan is in discussions regarding a move to another club. Nothing is confirmed, nothing is done at these stages but that's why he wasn't here today.

"With financial fair play you sort of have to trade otherwise, for us this summer we would be stuck in a position where we couldn't recruit players the other way. That's how financial fair play works."

Chelsea consider next Caicedo move

Tuesday 18 July 2023 14:44 , Matt Verri

Chelsea will continue talks over Moises Caicedo after having an improved offer for the midfielder rejected by Brighton, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

Chelsea, who had a £60m offer rejected last month, will now consider a fresh approach for Caicedo after making him their next transfer priority.

The Blues need to strengthen their midfield after losing N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount this summer, having also sold Jorginho to Arsenal in January.

Chelsea are adamant they will not pay over the odds for Caicedo but have been encouraged after the 21-year-year made it clear he wants to move to Stamford Bridge. The club hopes to find a compromise closer to £80m, but negotiating a deal with Brighton will not be easy.
