News broke on Monday that Major League Baseball is considering dramatic changes to its playoff format.

According to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, MLB is “seriously weighing” expanding the playoff field from five to seven teams in each league while allowing higher-seeded teams to choose their opponents from among wild-card teams.

It’s a radical concept. If the report is accurate, it’s clearly one that MLB is considering as it struggles to appeal to the modern sports fan.

Bauer: Rob Manfred is ‘a joke’

Regardless, it’s one that Cincinnati Reds pitcher and vocal Twitter user Trevor Bauer is not here for.

Bauer blasted the reported proposal and MLB commissioner Rob Manfred after the news broke.

A current player claiming the commissioner of baseball has “absolutely no clue about baseball” is the definition of a strong take.

Bauer’s heated history on Twitter

Bauer is no stranger to hot takes, having taken controversial stances on climate change, President Donald Trump and the president’s travel ban on people from majority-Muslim countries via his Twitter account.

So Bauer taking on Manfred via the confines of social media shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius also doesn’t like the reported proposal. Though he took a calmer approach with his Twitter objection.

Almost nobody likes change, even in cases where it’s desperately needed.
