Trio impress in national county final thriller

The local rugby community has been celebrating the performances of three former Salisbury players in a thrilling national final.

Last month, the Dorset and Wilts U20s squad became the Southern Counties champions with a narrow win over Hampshire.

The team then competed in the U20s national county final against East Midlands, the Northern Counties champions.

The match, played on the hallowed turf of HQ at Twickenham, was a thrilling encounter.

Despite a valiant effort, Dorset and Wilts narrowly missed victory by just two points, the destination of the title only being decided by the final kick of the match. The dedication and hard work of the players were evident throughout, leaving everything on the pitch.

Among the standout performers were three former Salisbury under-18 players: George Yarwood, Zac McLeod-Jones and George Smith.

Coaches said each brought their unique style and determination to the game, contributing significantly to the team’s performance and added that the experience of playing at such a high level is invaluable, especially for these young athletes.

The entire Dorset & Wilts squad and coaches should be immensely proud of their achievements.
