Turkish Grand Prix result: Lewis Hamilton wins seventh F1 world title

Lewis Hamilton delivered a performance fit for a seven-time world champion as he triumphed in a chaotic Turkish Grand Prix to equal Michael Schumacher’s all-time record of seven Formula One titles.

The 35-year-old Mercedes driver kept his head as others around him struggled in changing conditions, having risen from sixth on the grid to not only win on F1’s return to Istanbul but lap championship rival and teammate Valtteri Bottas to stress his dominance on the day.

As Bottas struggled through one of his worst performances of his career with four spins during a race to forget, Hamilton stressed why he is the dominating force of his generation to emerge victorious from a race-long battle with Lance Stroll, Sergio Perez, Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Alex Albon.

Having started the race in fully wet conditions, drivers had to contend with a slowly drying track that saw strategy play a key role in the race, yet not as much as driver talent as the entire field struggled to keep it on the track throughout the early stages.

Yet like so many times before in testing conditions, it was Hamilton who proved a cut above the rest, with the Briton coming home ahead of the Racing Point of Perez and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who timed his run through the pack to complete perfection.

The victory gives Hamilton an unassailable 110-point lead in the 2020 world championship with only 78 points remaining, adding the 2020 title to his previous triumphs in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
