UFC 162 Results: Cub Swanson Impressive with Third-Round TKO of Dennis Siver

Coming into his UFC 162 bout with Dennis Siver on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Cub Swanson believed that it should have been him getting a shot at UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo instead of Chan Sung Jung.

It took him until the third round, but he made a strong statement as to why he felt that way.

Known for his striking game, Siver put his striking on display early, landing some heavy kicks and punches, but spent much of the first round on the mat after catching a Swanson kick and driving him down. Siver showed a much-improved ground game, maintaining control of Swanson, although he didn’t do as much damage as he would have liked, and Swanson used that to his advantage as the fight wore on.

Swanson recovered well in round two, edging ahead by frequently landing the right hand and some solid leg kicks, his speed standing in stark contrast to Siver’s, who began to slow down after using a lot of gas in the first stanza.

Late in the second, Siver tried to shoot for a takedown, but Swanson caught him and executed a beautiful throw, landing in side control and finishing the round in impressive fashion.

Swanson continued to outstrike Siver in the third round, eventually landing a flurry of punches that dropped him to the mat. Never relenting, Swanson rained down punches from standing on his downed opponent until the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

The victory was Swanson’s fifth consecutive, with four of his latest wins coming by way of knockout or TKO stoppage, putting him in a strong position to lay claim to the title shot that he feels he deserves.
