UFC 193 Headed to Etihad Stadium in Melbourne
While it has been no secret that UFC 193 will take place on Nov. 15 in Melbourne, Australia, the venue it will be held at has been left to speculation… until now.
A report from the Sydney Morning Herald said that the UFC is going big and putting UFC 193 in Etihad Stadium. That report was later confirmed by UFC president Dana White.
The venue has hosted crowds nearing 57,000 for rugby and more than 70,000 for the 2014 International Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses, which means UFC 193 could be headed for record territory. The largest UFC audience to date was 55,724 at Rogers Centre in Toronto when Georges St-Pierre fought Jake Shields in the UFC 129 main event.
There had been some debate about whether to hold UFC 193 at Etihad Stadium or in the much smaller Rod Laver Arena, but with the fight card beginning to come together, UFC officials apparently feel that the Aussie crowd is ready for a stadium show.

UFC 193 is expected to feature a main event pitting welterweight champion Robbie Lawler against challenger Carlos Condit, as well as a rematch of the epic heavyweight bloodbath between New Zealander Mark Hunt and Brazilian Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The Sydney Morning Herald added that other bouts on the card will include Melbourne's Jake Matthews vs. Mexico's Akbarh Arreola and Aussie Olympic judoka Daniel Kelly vs. jiu-jitsu expert Ricardo Abreu.
The UFC is expected to release further details about UFC 193 on Wednesday.
