UFC 198 Results: Stipe Miocic Knocks Out Fabrcio Werdum for Heavyweight Title

And new!

Stipe Miocic shocked the Brazilian crowd on Saturday at UFC 198, knocking out their countryman Fabricio Werdum to become the UFC heavyweight champion.

Miocic caught Werdum with a right hand, sending the fighter falling unconscious to the floor at 2:47 of the first round in the evening's main event.

“Cleveland, we got a champion, baby!” Miocic shouted in his post-fight interview.

The two heavyweights measured each other on the feet in the early stages of the fight. Trading leg kicks and jabs took up most of the bout's opening moments.

Werdum attempted to pressure Miocic by throwing wild strikes while moving forward. Miocic, however, circled out of danger and countered with a right hand that caught Werdum clean on the jaw. The next moment saw the Brazilian falling face-first into floor. The referee stopped the fight right then and Miocic was named the winner.

With his victory on Saturday, Miocic brings home a championship to Cleveland, Ohio, a town known for going decades without gold hardware to call their own. Your move, LeBron James.
