UFC Fight Night 62 Fighters Bonuses Were ‘Tough Decision' For Dana White

The Ultimate Fighting Champion returned to Rio de Janeiro on Saturday for UFC Fight Night 62: Maia vs. LaFlare at the Maracanazinho Gymnasium for a card headlined by welterweights Demian Maia and Ryan LaFlare.

After the fights, the UFC awarded its usual $50,000 post-fight bonuses and it wasn't an easy deciding who received them on a fight card that featured nine finishes. Gilbert Burns, Godofredo ‘Pepey' Castro, Kevin Souza and Fredy Serrano ultimately earned the bonus money.

The undefeated Burns (10-0) was well on his way to his first career defeat against Alex Oliveira (10-2) through the first two rounds. He was behind on the scorecards, but pulled off a come-from-behind arm bar finish late in the final round to remain unbeaten.

‘Pepey' (12-3) entered the octagon as an underdog against Andre Fili (14-3) in their main card featherweight bout. A flying triangle choke was all he needed to pull the upset and earn a performance bonus.

Souza (16-3) extended his winning streak to ten consecutive fights with a first-round knockout of Japan's Katsunori Kikuno (23-7-2). Souza landed a straight right hand as Kikuno tried to get the fight to the ground, rendering Kiduno unconscious before his back hit the canvas.

Serrano (2-0) kicked off the fight card with a third-round knockout of Bentley Syler. It was a closely contested fight until Serrano landed a perfectly timed uppercut in the final frame that ended it.

UFC president Dana White said that Erick Silva (18-5, 1 NC) and Amanda Nunes (10-4) would also received a ‘check' for their performances.

“Amanda Nunes and Erik Silva both had amazing (finishes), said White during the event's post-fight press conference. “It was tough to pick these, but I will take care of you guys too. You will get a check.”
