UFC Fight Night 63 Results: Liz Carmouche Given Controversial Unanimous Nod

It wasn’t the most exciting fight in recent memory, but Liz Carmouche, in an unpopular decision by the crowd’s reaction, got back on the winning track by defeating former Invicta FC bantamweight champion Lauren Murphy at UFC Fight Night 63 on Saturday in Virginia.

Murphy was the aggressor from the opening bell, immediately taking the center of the Octagon and pumping her jab in Carmouche’s face and then tying her up and pressing her against the fence.

Carmouche hit Murphy with hammerfists and punches to the head and body while she was clinched up against the fence, but she couldn’t seem to keep Murphy off of her.

Round after round, Murphy started quickly and clinched, driving Carmouche into the fence and not giving her any room to be effective with her more dynamic striking game.

Carmouche landed a few kicks in the second round, and secured a couple of takedowns in the final frame. Perhaps that coupled with Carmouche’s attempts to land more power shots throughout the fight swayed the judges over Murphy’s controlling approach, as they awarded Carmouche a unanimous decision. The crowd rained boos down on the Octagon after the decision was read.

The victory ended a two-fight skid for Carmouche, and began one for Murphy.
