UFC Fight Night 65 Fighter Bonuses: Robert Whittaker's 44-Second KO Leads the Way

The Ultimate Fighting Championship made its Adelaide, Australia, debut on Sunday local time (Saturday in the United States). With 10 of the 12 bouts on the card ending in a finish, the fighters didn’t make it easy for the UFC brass to select the post-fight bonus winners.

There was no Fight of the Night bonus awarded at UFC Fight Night 65, but UFC president Dana White announced the four Performance of the Night winners shortly after the event. Each of the awards is accompanied by a $50,000 bonus.

Co-main eventer Robert Whittaker was an easy choice. He left his mark on the middleweight division, knocking out No. 14 ranked Brad Tavares in just 44 seconds. Whittaker dropped Tavares twice with his patented left hook, racking up the seventh knockout/TKO finish of his career.

James Vick survived the early onslaught of Jake Matthews in the main card opener, turning the tables at the end of the opening frame to secure a guillotine submission for the win and a bonus.

Although the financial windfall of a post-fight bonus is huge, Daniel Hooker’s win over Hatsu Hioki was even more important. After having lost to Maximo Blanco in his last trip to the Octagon, Hooker needed to impress. He did just that, using a head kick and punches to score a knockout over the former Sengoku and Shoot featherweight champion.

Alex Chamber was another fighter in desperate need of a victory after losing her UFC debut late last year. It took her 13 minutes and 15 seconds, but she got the victory that she so badly needed, submitting Kailin Curran with an armbar.
