UFC Fight Night 80 Results: Michael Chiesa Submits Jim Miller

Lightweight Michael Chiesa earned the biggest win of his career at UFC Fight Night 80 on Thursday, submitting fourteenth-ranked Jim Miller in the fight card’s co-main event.

Chiesa, winner of The Ultimate Fighter 15, took Miller down early in the opening round, but was later reversed by the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. Miller took Chiesa's back and ended the opening round by landing punches to the body.

Between rounds, Chiesa's corner told him that he gave away the first round. He agreed and entered the second frame thinking that he was down on the scorecards.

He took Miller down in the early going of the second frame. Miller isolated a leg and rolled for a knee bar. Chiesa defended the submission attempt and landed hammer fists that hurt the 21-fight UFC veteran. Chiesa advanced to the mount position and Miller quickly gave up his back. Chiesa then locked on a rear-naked choke that forced Miller to tap out.

With the win, Chiesa will likely move into the top 15 rankings and wants to face a ranked opponent in his next outing.

“All I've got to say is that I'm in the top 15. All you guys in the front on your computers, mark it down now. Top 15. I'm not taking any backwards steps. I'm telling you right now by the end of 2016 I will be a top 5 fighter and you'll be talking about me for a lightweight title. Put that in your book,” said the 28-year-old following the submission win.

“I'm not afraid to grapple with anybody in the lightweight division. I'm not afraid to stand toe-to-toe and throw punches. I'll do whatever. I'm a winner,” he said. “I'm not the prettiest. I'm not the best, but I win and that's all that matters in the UFC.”

Chiesa doesn't care who he faces next, but wants to fight someone ranked above him.

“I don't care who. I'm not taking backward steps. I want top 15 fighters,” said Chiesa.
