UFC Fight Night 83 Results: Derek Brunson Finishes Roan Carneiro in First Round

Middleweight Derek Brunson took out veteran Roan Carneiro in the first round by TKO in the UFC Fight Night 83 co-main event in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The fight began with both fighters looking to find their range and timing. Brunson looked to set up his powerful left hand while Carneiro worked to land his right, or score a takedown.

After landing a right hook, Carneiro loaded up with a punch. Brunson ducked under and Carneiro's momentum carried him forward and he slipped. It proved to be a critical error.

Brunson followed the Brazilian to the ground and unleashed an barrage of punches. Carneiro tried to secure wrist control and establish his guard, but Bruson continued to land strikes. A well-placed right hand caused Carneiro to briefly go limp, and the referee stepped in to stop the action.

With the win, Brunson extended his winning streak to four consecutive fights and snapped Carneiro's six-fight winning run. It was the third consecutive first-round finish for the 32-year-old.

“I’m a straight animal,” he said following the TKO win.

Once Brunson gained top position, he delivered a steady stream of punches and wasn't worried about punching himself out to the point of fatigue.

“Forget punching yourself out. I work hard. If I hit you one time and I rock you, it’s go time baby,” he said.

Ranked number 13 in the 185-pound division, Brunson plans to continue to move up the ladder and doesn't care who he faces next.

“Whoever wants to get TKO’d,” Brunson replied when asked if he had anyone that held like to fight in his outing.
