UFC Fight Night 85 Results: Mark Hunt Scores a Walk-Off KO Over Frank Mir

UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Mir Attendance and Gate from Brisbane, Australia

Ninth-ranked heavyweight Mark Hunt is known for his punching power, and he reminded everyone of that on Saturday by knocking out former champion Frank Mir in the first round of the UFC Fight Night 85 main event.

Mir’s game plan was to get the fight to the ground. He was looking to time Hunt as he moved forward, hoping to change levels to put the “Super Samoan” on his back. The opportunity never came.

Hunt defended the first takedown attempt and avoided the clinch position. Midway through the opening frame, Hunt landed a right hand that put Mir down. He didn’t follow up with any strikes. It was another walk-off knockout for 41-year-old New Zealander.

“There's always a winner and a loser, and it's sad that one of us had to lose tonight,” said Hunt following the win. “Frank's a good dude. I respect him a lot.”

The knockout was Hunt's second consecutive win. He'll remain in the top ten rankings while the loss was Mir's second in-a-row. The former champion has lost six of his last eight outings. It's unclear where Mir goes from here.
