UFC Fight Night 90 Fighter Bonuses: Eddie Alvarez Earns More Than Just the Belt

The UFC kicked off the first event of a three-night tripleheader with UFC Fight Night 90 on Thursday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight card opened with five straight submissions, which were followed by several more finishes on the night, leaving U FC officials no shortage of options when selecting its $50,000 post-fight bonus winners.

Newly crowned lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, Alan Jouban, Belal Muhammed and Pedro Munhoz earned the performance-based initiatives.

Fight of the Night honors went to the main card welterweight bout between Jouban and Muhammed. It was Muhammed's promotional debut, and he impressed with his durability and heart. Jouban dropped Muhammed three times in the first two rounds, but Muhammed kept getting back up. In the third frame, Muhammad had Jouban hurt and left it all in the cage. Jouban ultimately won the fight by unanimous decision, but Muhammed got the attention of the UFC and the rest of the welterweight division.

Alvarez earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his first-round finish of Rafael dos Anjos to capture the lightweight title in the fight card's main event. Dos Anjos pressured Alvarez and was looking sharp until a perfectly placed right hand stunned him. Alvarez, sensing a finish, unloaded everything in his arsenal. The referee stopped the fight after a series of strikes landed flush, including several uppercuts.

Munhoz took home the second Performance of the Night award for his first-round submission over Russell Doane on the preliminary card. Munhoz rebounded from a loss in his previous outing with the guillotine choke win.

The 12-fight card featured six submission finishes, four decisions, and two knockouts.
