UFC's Josh Samman Remains in a Coma

UFC Fighter Josh Samman Has Died

UFC middleweight Josh Samman was found unresponsive early Friday morning in South Florida. As of Sunday, he reportedly remained in a coma.

A report by the Tallahassee Democrat said Samman was found unresponsive early Friday and was in a hospital in critical condition. He was reportedly found alongside his roommate, Troy Kirkingburg, who was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Local Florida MMA reporter Christopher Rothstein forwarded a statement from Samman's mother on Sunday to FOX Sports, updating his situation and trying to dispel some of the rumors that have floated throughout the MMA community.

“Josh is still in a coma, and more tests are being done. That is the latest update on my son's condition,” Samman's mother said in the statement. “And in spite of speculation, there was no heroin found in Josh's system whatsoever. No matter what people are posting on social media.

“The reason I am making this statement is because Josh touched so many lives and loved inspiring others, especially young people. I don't want them to lose faith in him and whatever he brought out in them because of the lies. He would want them to ‘never give up.'”

Samman, 28, made his way to the Octagon via the seventeenth season of The Ultimate Fighter. He has spent the last three years fighting under the UFC banner, amassing a 3-2 record.

He also helped start and was the CEO of the Combat Night fight promotion in Florida, for which Kirkingburg was the ring announcer.

UFC officials told MMAWeekly.com, “We are aware of (Samman’s) hospitalization and have been in communication with his management.”
