UK coronavirus death toll rises by three, bringing the total to 41,504

A further three people have died after contracting coronavirus, according to the latest Government figures.

The number of people who have lost their lives to Covid-19 now stands at 41,504 as of Tuesday.

The Government also said that as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 1,295 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Overall, 337,168 cases have been confirmed.

Meanwhile, separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 57,200 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The figures differ from those released by individual devolved authorities, which show a further 10 people have died in UK hospitals with the disease.

Nine people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospitals in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 29,563, NHS England said on Tuesday.

The patients were aged between 71 and 92 and all but one had known underlying health conditions.

The dates of the deaths ranged from August 6 to August 31, with the majority on or after August 26.

Another three deaths have been reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

One new death has been reported in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths to 1,596, Public Health Wales said.

The latest figures show 18,063 people have tested positive for coronavirus, up by 51 from the day before.

In Scotland, no new coronavirus deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.

A total of 2,494 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus.

The statistics show that 20,632 people have now tested positive in Scotland, up by 154 from 20,478 the day before.

There are 264 people in hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid-19, an increase of six in 24 hours.

Of these patients, six were in intensive care, up one.

In Northern Ireland, no new deaths were reported on Tuesday, leaving the total at 560.

Another 49 people have tested positive for Covid-19, health officials said.

Some 461 new cases of the virus have been detected in the last seven days, bringing the total in the region to 7,294.
