Uruguay World Cup 2022 guide: Star player, fixtures, squad, one to watch, odds to win

The answer to quiz questions on the inaugural World Cup, Uruguay continue to try and add some more modern chapters to their football history.

They finished fourth in 2010 and reached the quarter-finals four years ago, before losing to eventual winners France.

Still getting used to life without Oscar Tabarez in charge, it is 52 years since they last won a World Cup match without him in the dugout.

Here’s everything you need to know about Uruguay …

Coach: Diego Alonso. Took over in December, winning his first four matches in charge to seal qualification.

Captain: Diego Godin. The former Atletico Madrid defender is set to add to his 159 caps after overcoming injury worries to make it to Qatar.

Star player: Federico Valverde. One of the best midfielders in the world right now, with eight goals and four assists for Real Madrid this season.

One to watch: Luis Suarez. The 35-year-old will find the spotlight, one way or another.

Odds to win: 35/1
