Only one decision would have been changed by VAR during Saturday’s Premier League kick offs.

The trial took place at the central VAR hub, for all of Saturday’s 3pm kick offs, but there was no contact with match officials at the games.

The only decision which would have been overturned was Leroy Sane’s disallowed goal for a marginal offside in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Fulham. Had VAR been implemented it would have stood had.

Replays showed the winger was just onside when he put the ball in the net just before the break. It would have been his second goal of the game and would have put City 3-0 up.

Bournemouth’s controversial penalty for handball in their 4-2 win against Leicester would have stood because it wasn’t seen as a clear and obvious error.

Tottenham thought they should have been awarded a penalty in stoppage time of their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, when Heung-Min Son went down under a challenge from Sadio Mane, but the VAR trial did not include the early kick-off, or Manchester United’s tea-time trip to Watford.

VAR will continue to be trialled throughout the season, with the number of matches to use the system expected to treble from 19 games last season to 60.
