Lexus is redesigning the GX mid-size SUV for 2024 and the new model plays up its off-road nature even more than before. The big news is the addition of an Overtrail trim level with upgraded mechanicals, and the powertrain—a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6—is new as well.
The 2024 GX is launching as a GX550 in the U.S., and this model comes with a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6, four-wheel drive, and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Lexus says that a hybrid version is coming later on.
Pictured here is the new-for-2024 Overtrail trim level, which has rugged styling elements and other mechanical upgrades.
The Overtrail comes with 18-inch wheels and 33-inch all-terrain tires.
The 3.4-liter V-6 produces 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.
The Overtrail also gets skid plates and slightly improved approach and departure angles.
In addition to the low range and center locking differential available on other GXs, the Overtrail also gets a rear locking differential.
As opposed to the old GX's side-opening tailgate, the new model has a more conventional liftgate with a glass portion that opens separately.
This new Lexus script across the rear replaces the previous "L" badge and is also found on other new SUV models.
The Overtrail comes with a two-row seating setup, but other GX models have three rows of seats.
