Vincent Kompany's X-rated barrage at referee during Chelsea bust-up revealed

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has been fined £10,000 and handed a two-match touchline ban - one of which is suspended - following his expletive-laden outburst at referee Darren England.

The incident occurred during a heated exchange over a contentious penalty decision in their match against Chelsea on March 30. Kompany, who is usually known for his eloquence and calm manner, was shown a red card after Burnley defender Lorenz Assignon also received his marching orders for a second yellow card offence on Mykhailo Mudryk.

This disciplinary action follows another Premier League controversy involving Nottingham Forest's frustration with VAR Stuart Attwell for not awarding them any of three penalty appeals during their game against Everton last weekend. The decision that sparked Kompany's fury was widely criticised by TV pundits who labelled it a "soft penalty."

England reported that Kompany further delayed the game by taking his time to leave the pitch, reports the Mirror. Assistant referee James Bell provided evidence of the verbal tirade to an independent panel, stating: "Following the award of a penalty to Chelsea in the 40th minute the Burnley Manager (Vincent Kompany) reacted angrily by moving out of his technical area throwing his arms aggressively and shouting at the referee.

"As the decision was being checked I attempted to use members of his own technical area staff to calm him down but Mr Kompany persisted to insult the referee by pointing towards him and calling him 'a f*****g cheat' numerous times. Despite the attempts to calm him down Mr Kompany then entered the field of play, briefly, again gesturing towards the referee and shouting 'you're a f****** cheat.'".

"I informed the referee (Darren England) that a Stage 2 (red card) sanction was required for the Burnley manager. As Darren came over to issue the red card Mr Kompany again said, 'f*****g cheat.' After his sending off Mr Kompany remained in the technical area for some time causing a delay to the re-start of the game before he eventually made his way down the tunnel."

Kompany admitted to the commission that he was "out of control" and "could not remember whether he said the words four or five times." But Kompany showed remorse, apologised and has promised to work closely with officials to ensure better behaviour in the future.
