Virat Kohli has become the first man to be named cricketer, Test and ODI player of the year at the same International Cricket Council awards.

No England players made the Test team of the year but Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Joe Root and Ben Stokes were all included in the ODI team.

Kohli scored 1,322 runs in 13 Tests in 2018 at an average of 55.08, while he hit 1,202 runs at 133.55 in 14 ODIs.

He finished the year ranked No 1 batsman in both formats, while he guided India to the top of the global Test rankings, second in ODIs behind England and second in T20Is behind Pakistan.

"It feels amazing. It's a reward for all the hard work that you do throughout the calendar year," said Kohli.

"To be rewarded in this manner... is a very proud moment for me and something that gives you more motivation to keep repeating the same things because you have to keep the standard of cricket up and keep bringing in consistent performances."

South African seamer Kagiso Rabada finished second in the cricketer and Test player categories with Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan runner-up in the ODI category.

England are not represented in the Test team, despite James Anderson sitting second in the bowling rankings and Root fifth in the batting.

New Zealand trio Tom Latham, Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls are among those selected in a side captained by Kohli.

The awards and teams were selected by an ICC panel comprising former cricketers and journalists.

Aaron Finch's world record 172-run T20 score against Zimbabwe won him the performance of the year award for the second time after bettering his own record of 156 during his 76-ball onslaught.

India's 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was named emerging cricketer, while Scotland batsman Calum MacLeod claimed the award for Associate cricketer of the year after his unbeaten 157 against Afghanistan and 140 not out against England.
