Former Pakistani skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has advised Indian skipper Virat Kohli to stop thinking like a captain when he comes to bat. He also advised that the star Indian batsman should go back to his natural game. Inzamam’s comments arrive post-Virat Kohli’s poor batting show in the ongoing Test series against England.

The Indian skipper has only scored 69 runs in the 4 innings of the 3 Tests so far, averaging just 17.25. The right-handed batsman has registered scores of 0, 42, 20, 7 in the 4 innings he batted so far against England. Moreover, since November 2019, the 32-year-old has struggled to smash a century across the formats.

Virat Kohli Needs To Play His Strokes And Go Back To His Natural Game: Inzamam-Ul-Haq

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Inzamam-ul-Haq said that Virat Kohli needs to play his strokes and go back to his natural game. Former Pakistani cricketer also believes that the Indian captain is putting too much pressure on himself.

“Everyone knows that Virat Kohli is the No. 1 player in the world. His touch as a class player is missing so far. If he wants to come out of this rut, Kohli needs to play his strokes and go back to his natural game. He is putting too much pressure on himself,” Inzamam said while speaking on YouTube.

Haq also suggested the right-handed batsman should stop thinking like a captain when he goes out to bat.

“My suggestion to Kohli will be – stop thinking like captain when you go out to bat. He needs to remember that he is Virat Kohli. He needs to bat just the way Virat Kohi does. Kohli must keep all the other stuff related to captaincy aside when he bats.

“If he goes in thinking as captain every time, his natural fluency and power gets affected, which can be seen. Yes, it’s a big series but Kohli must remember that he has performed on the big stage before. But he seems to have gone into his shell and needs to come out of it,” Inzamam further said.

Meanwhile, the Indian team suffered an epic batting collapse in India vs England 3rd Test at Headingly in Leeds. Against England’s pace attack, the team was bowled out for just 78 runs in the 1st innings.

Later, with the fifties by top-order batsmen Rory Burns (61), Haseeb Hammed (68), and Dawid Malan (70), England managed to get a good opening start. Later, skipper Joe Root (121) shattered a century as England reached 423-8 in the 1st innings on Day 2, earning a mammoth 345-run lead over the visitors.
