Virgin Galactic unveiled its commercial space airplane’s interior cabin on July 28.
The SpaceShipTwo is not offering rides just yet, but it will eventually provide suborbital flights at an altitude of at least 50 miles. Right now, you can however peep inside cabin which is the “centerpiece” of the customer’s journey.
The cabin is designed so that fliers can experience “out-of-seat weightlessness” while onboard, according to the Associated Press. It has 12 windows and 16 cameras to view Earth and capture the once-in-a-lifetime memories.
The SpaceShipTwo resembles the typical setup of an airplane with two rows of reclining seats and a small aisle in between. However, the dozen circular-shaped windows cover the ceiling almost entirely. You’re going to get a great view of Earth no matter where you’re seated.
Virgin Galactic partnered with Seymourpowell, a London-based design agency, to create the sleek and stylish interior.
“The color palette of the cabin has been carefully curated so that it complements the architecture of the seat, the cabin itself and spacesuits. The golden metallics resemble luminous desert sands, blues conjure celestial spaces and teals inspired by the ocean ground travelers back to Earth,” Virgin Galactic said in a statement.
The company also collaborated with Under Armour to create the spacesuits and fabric technology of the seats. Under Armour made a 3D knit material to map breathability and function in both the seats and suits.
“When we created Virgin Galactic, we started with what we believed would be an optimal customer experience and then built the spaceship around it,” Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Group founder said. “We will continue with that ethos as we expand our fleet, build our operations and underpin Virgin Galactic’s position as the Spaceline for Earth.”
