Vivianne Miedema has revealed she would be open to joining a club overseas following her departure from Arsenal.

The Netherlands international joined the Gunners from Bayern Munich in 2017 and went on to become the Women’s Super League’s (WSL) all-time top scorer, providing a total of 125 goals and 50 assists in 172 appearances in all competitions. She has struggled for form since rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in December 2022 and was controversially released when her Arsenal contract expired at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The 27-year-old has already been linked with a move to a host of top European clubs, with Manchester City currently the frontrunners to secure her signature. However, she has now admitted she is considering a variety of options, including relocating to a club somewhere else in Europe.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Miedema said "I discussed certain choices and options with my girlfriend Beth and my brother Lars.

"I want to make the decision before we start playing real matches in July. That's in less than two weeks. Discussions with the clubs have been going on for a long time. Ultimately, there's just a deadline.

"One of the things that played a role in my choice is that it must be a top European club. The club has to play the Champions League and give me time to get fit. A club where I can be myself is very important to me."

She added: "I have always said that I am open to other competitions. I played football in the Netherlands and Germany and have been in England for seven years. So I am certainly open to a move elsewhere in Europe.

"Ultimately, there are less than ten top European clubs in women's football. So I think we can all figure out which clubs are in the running and what options are available.”

Of course, moving overseas would also mean moving away from her girlfriend, Arsenal forward Beth Mead. However, Miedema has suggested the relationship won't be a barrier should her preferred destination be overseas.

"Ultimately, if you want to play good football, you also want to feel good off the field," she said. "But London is easy to reach from all over Europe. In that respect, all top European clubs are an option.”
