Wales identified as global hotspot for top darts talent

A recent study has revealed that Wales is one of the highest producers of top darts players in the world.

Conducted by the sports betting platform OLBG, the study was based on the number of players to appear at the World Darts Championship since 2019 by country.

Wales had a total of eight players, tying with Scotland and one ahead of the United States.

England leads the chart with 70 players, accounting for nearly a third (31.25 per cent) of the total participants at the World Championships since 2019.

The Netherlands follows, providing 28 contestants or precisely one-eighth of the player tally.

Australia, Germany, and Japan each have nine representations.

The study coincides with an increase in darts viewership.

Sparked by the performance of 17-year-old Luke Littler at the 2024 World Darts Championships, OLBG suggests there has been a surge of young darts enthusiasts.

The 2024 World Darts Championships saw an 84.92 per cent viewership increase from the previous year, with more than 3.6 million fans tuning in on Sky TV in the UK alone.
