Warrior Run wrestlers dominate Benton

Dec. 19—BENTON — Fresh off its fourth-place showing at the prestigious King of the Mountain tournament last weekend, Warrior Run kept rolling Tuesday with a 63-12 dual-meet win over Benton.

The Defenders are now 2-0 in dual meets after trouncing Muncy 72-3 last week.

"Kids went out, they wrestled well. They went out to score points and tried to improve on some of the things that we were losing points on this weekend at King of the Mountain trying to prove themselves," said Warrior Run coach Jeremy Betz. "So I was happy with the effort and the level of performance."

Of the 11 matches that the Defenders won, seven resulted in pins.

Warrior Run earned its first pin in the opening match, which started at 127 pounds. In that match, Caden Snyder defeated Nick Jumper in 62 seconds for the Defenders' first points.

At 133, Gavin Hunter secured a 14-0 major decision against Daniel Sleiman as Hunter extended the Defenders' lead to 10-0. After Max Wirnsberger earned a forfeit at 139, Tyler Ulrich picked up another pin for Warrior Run, besting Dylan Brokenshire in 1:29. Ulrich's pin gave the Defenders a 22-0 lead.

At 152, Reagan Milheim pinned Luke Eckroth in 1:41. Cameron Milheim then made easy work of Sage Thompson at 160, needing only 31 seconds to get the pin that gave the Defenders a 34-0 lead.

Both Reagan and Cameron Milheim were coming off individual King of the Mountain titles. In total, Warrior Run crowned three champions at Central Mountain last weekend as Wirnsberger won his final bout as well.

"(Reagan and Cameron Milheim) went out and they took care of business pretty quick, which I was proud of them for that," Betz said. "They're really good and really fun to watch wrestle."

After Cameron Milheim's win, Cole Shupp registered a 16-1 technical fall at 172 over Trevor Dietz in a match that lasted 3:58. Then, at 189, Jalan Hall gave the Defenders a pin against Brady Thomas in 4:53 to extend the lead to 45-0. Isaiah Betz followed that with another pin at 215 over Zachary Wolfe in 1:42.

At heavyweight, Stone Allison picked up a fall over Alan Lane in 1:14 to give Warrior Run a 57-0 lead. After the Defenders were awarded a forfeit at 107, Benton finally got on the board by winning the final two matches. At 114, Aiden Hartman pinned Aaron Crisman in 1:39 to make the score 63-6. Seth Kolb then picked up a forfeit for Benton at 121 to make the final score 63-12.

"Jalan Hall got out there and he got a chance to perform," Jeremy Betz said. "The match was kind of tight, back-and-forth a little bit, and he was able to get the pin at the end, so I was proud of that effort. Aaron Crisman went up a weight. He got his weight down to 107, but he went out and wrestled and scrapped a little bit in that match, too.

"I think they were just more relaxed as they went out from start-to-finish, and they were able to score points earlier in matches and continue to build leads. So I think that was a big improvement from this week."
