England travel to face France in a crunch Euro 2025 qualifier in Saint-Etienne tonight.

The match at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard comes just four days after the Lionesses were bested 2-1 by the same opposition at St James’ Park in their first European Championship qualifying loss for 24 years, with goals from Elisa de Almeida and Marie-Antoinette Katoto cancelling out Beth Mead’s opener in Newcastle.

It was another disappointing result for Sarina Wiegman’s side, who also lost star goalkeeper Mary Earps to a hip injury that has since forced her withdrawal from the squad.

England had beaten the Republic of Ireland in Dublin last month to get back on track after being held at home by Sweden at Wembley in their opening qualifier.

Now Wiegman’s European Championship holders need a result across the Channel to avoid being cut adrift by France at the summit of Group A3, having already fallen to third and five points off the pace.
