Watch: James Anderson Kicks The Pitch In Frustration After Rohit Sharma Drives Him Through Covers

Rohit Sharma’s second coming in Test cricket, as an opener, has been remarkable. Making his Test debut in 2013, he had previously hit 7 Test centuries, all at home, but at The Oval, on Saturday, Day 3 of the Test match, the right-hander banished the hoodoo of his drought of a three-figure score outside India.

He hit a remarkable ton, putting India in the dominant position after they had conceded a 99-run lead. Throughout the series, he has troubled the English bowlers, with his monk-like patience – leaving the ball outside off, stoic in defence, and captivating as always while playing attacking shots.

And James Anderson‘s frustration was visible – if not just with his expressions, his little action of kicking the turf after being creamed through covers by Rohit Sharma made it more conspicuous.

On the last ball of the 38th over, Anderson, who had bowled tightly till then and had reaped the wicket of KL Rahul, pitched it up, in order to find some swing movement, which wasn’t available much on Day 3. Rohit Sharma, batting on 38 off 117 balls, despite the lack of his feet movement, was able to caress it past mid-off for a boundary.

While returning to his bowling mark, Anderson kicked his landing area on the bowling crease – seemingly frustrated by Rohit Sharma’s resistance, or perhaps not happy with something at his landing area.

Anyways, the opener, after being given a couple of lives by Rory Burns before he had reached fifty, went on to bat positively and looked assured as ever. He is now India’s leading run-scorer in the series with 368 runs at 52.57, and is behind only Joe Root, who has scored 528 at 105.60.

Ravi Shastri tests positive for covid-19

Meanwhile, India’s Head coach Ravi Shastri has been placed in isolation after his lateral flow test returned positive last evening. Along with Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and physiotherapist Nitin Patel have also been put in isolation as a precautionary measure.

“They have undergone RT-PCR testing and shall remain in the team hotel and not travel with Team India until confirmation from the medical team,” the BCCI said.

The BCCI also added:

“The remaining members of the Team India contingent underwent two Lateral Flow Tests – one last night and another this morning. The members upon returning negative COVID reports were allowed to proceed for Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test at The Oval.”

At the start of play, India are 270/3, leading by 171 runs, with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease.
