The skate-to-stick move will forever be credited to the creative stylings of Pavel Bure, but it hasn’t really evolved since he first brought it to the NHL 23 years ago.

There have been some nice tributes from the likes of Pavel Datsyuk (of course), while Aleksander Barkov added a different twist to the skate-stick synergy in the shootout last season, but we haven’t seen it taken to the next level the same way we have Mike Legg’s lacrosse-style move.

Jared Aulin might have changed that with his Bure-inspired move in Switzerland’s National League B on Tuesday.

There are so many things that make this play unreal. For starters, the fact he is able to execute the pass with such precision is an incredible feat. Not only does he put it in the right spot, but he somehow manages to sneak it by the defenceman’s stick. He also made the play knowing the backchecking forward was hot on his heels, and still was confident enough to attempt it.

Aulin has always been a skilled playmaker, going back to his days with the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers, but this is some next level stuff.

Sure, his coach probably didn’t like it and he was lucky to not have it backfire on him, but you don’t reach Bure-comparison heights without taking a few risks.
