India captain Virat Kohli and veteran England pacer James Anderson have resumed their duel in the ongoing test series. However, it’s more than just that bat and ball talking as both the stalwarts were engaged in a war of words during the second Test at Lord’s on Day 4.

But, the fire of the verbal battles of Day 4 was ignited in the fading light of Day 3 when Anderson had hurled down some harsh words to Jasprit Bumrah after the Indian pacer troubled Anderson with a barrage of bouncers in a 10-ball over, extended due to four no-balls.

While batting the next day, in India’s second innings, Virat Kohli, who seemed unimpressed with Anderson arguing with Bumrah, decided to sledge the legendary English seamer with some verbal volleys. Both were recorded chirping at each other.

This is the conversation which was recorded between the two legends going at each other:

Virat Kohli: What was that? huh? Swearing at me again, like Jasprit [ Bumrah ] huh?

James Anderson said: You can swear at me all you want. No one else can.

Virat Kohli: You play by your own rules. You are calling me a Fu***** Pr*** for running too? This isn’t your backyard!

James Anderson said: I think that bowlers can run through the crease too.

Virat Kohli: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Chirp, chirp, chirp. This is what old age makes you do.

On Day 5, Jasprit Bumrah, who is usually calm, then engaged in an altercation with the English players, in particular with wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. Bumrah let his bat and ball do the rest of the talking – he scored 34 unbeaten runs and picked three wickets as India bowled England out inside two sessions to claim the victory.

The tension in the field helped us: Virat Kohli

The Indian skipper, in the post-match ceremony, said that all the squabble during the game only fired them up to motivated them further to win the encounter.

“The way we played in the second innings after being put under pressure – Jasprit and Shami were outstanding. We had the belief we can get them out in 60 overs. The tension in the field in our second innings, what happened there, helped us,” Kohli said after the game.

The third Test match will commence on August 25 at Headingley for which England have dropped the likes of Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley and recalled Dawid Malan. India are likely to stick with the same combination – if fit, Shardul Thakur can come, but Ravichandran Ashwin is expected to be left out again.
