It was thrilling to hear that the creators of this year’s The Jungle Book tried their hardest to make way for women talent, especially since the Disney cartoon feature was almost entirely male. So, when the film was released this past April, it was nice to see Scarlett Johansson taking on the role as Kaa, the slithery (originally male) snake known for the song “Trust In Me” — a role originally taken on by Sterling Holloway back in the late ’60s.

It was up to Johansson to “reinvent” the character a bit for the 2016 live action remake.

“In this film, Kaa is more of a storyteller, and she’s very seductive and a mirror into the past for Mowgli,” Johansson said in the feature with E! News. She mentioned that being able to work with director Jon Favreau was pretty thrilling, especially since she was able to add her own spin to such a classic character.

“She’s very alluring, and the way that she moves informs my vocal performance, and I also think my vocal performance affects the finished Kaa that you see… And that marriage is a really exciting one,” she added.

The Jungle Book also stars Neel Sethi as Mowgli, and the vocal talent of actors like Bill Murray, Lupita Nyong’o, and Idris Elba.

If you missed seeing the film in theaters, have no fear — it’ll be available to watch on Digital HD on August 23rd, and you can find it on Blu-ray on August 30th.
