So Troy Deeney is not a fan of Marco Silva’s defensive set-up. How do we know this? Because the Watford striker just said so.

After Everton’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal, the Hornets captain opened up about the things he disliked about the now Toffees boss’ tactics during his time as manager at Vicarage Road.

Silva is know for his attractive football, but his teams have a habit of conceding too many goals, which is happening at Everton and happened at Watford.

And Deeney, who isn’t shy of a targeted comment or two, told the Monday Night club on BBC Radio 5Live what it was like during Silva’s time at the Hornets.

After Everton lost 2-0 over the weekend at Arsenal, Troy Deeney became Marco Silva’s latest critic.

“He is a very, very good coach. But he puts a lot of onus on one-v-one defending,” Deeney told the Monday Night club on BBC Radio 5Live.

“You can see how expansive they are against Arsenal. Going forward they are going to be good but you’re always going to be asking a centre-half to go one-v-one against somebody.

“There was a lot of times in the Arsenal game when Arsenal countered and it was two-v-two with people just running back.”

Everton haven’t started the season brilliantly, winning just once this season and currently sit 12th in the table on six points.
