Director Tim Burton’s Netflix series Wednesday was a bonafide hit following its release in November 2022, inspiring its own TikTok dance craze and paving the way for a second season.

With Scream 5 star Jenna Ortega seemingly finding a break-out role in The Addams Family’s macabre, solemn-faced and dark-humoured daughter, you don’t have to be an all-seeing mystic to assume that we’ll be joining her on even more adventures on Netflix in the coming years.

What will they entail? Join us as we unearth all the details we can about Wednesday season two, including plot tidbits, release date information, trailers and more.

It didn’t take long for Netflix to give the green light to Wednesday season two, with the streamer making it official in January 2023 alongside a special announcement teaser.

While we also learned that Ortega will this time serve as a series producer, we sadly don’t have any idea yet of a potential release date.

After cracking a werewolf-shaped case in season one, Wednesday left Nevermore to return home while it closed for the remainder of the semester. When she returns, there will no doubt be a brand new mysterious investigation for her to put her skills towards unpicking — but as to what it will entail? We’re not yet sure.

One thing we do know about Wednesday season two is its tone. During an interview with Variety in June 2023, Ortega let slip about the tone of the show’s second outing, hinting that it will lean more into the world of horror and ditch any detours into romance. How very Wednesday.

“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more,” Ortega explained. “Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.

“We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” she added, referring to her links to Hunter Doohan’s Tyler Galpin and Percy Hynes White’s Xavier Thorpe.

She went on to discuss how her new producer status aims to give her more control over the character’s progression. She said: “We had already been throwing out so many ideas, and I’m somebody who’s very hands-on.

“I want to know what’s going on... So in preparation for a second season, we wanted to get ahead of the curve and make sure that we could start the conversations earlier. And I’m just so curious. I want to see the outfits, new characters that are coming in, scripts, and they were gracious enough to let me put the producer hat on.”

The series will mark the return of key characters from the series like Ortega, Luis Guzman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Fred Armisen. Emma Myers is also set to return to the show as Wednesday's roommate and friend Enid Sinclair.

In April 2024, Variety reported that Steve Buscemi had been cast in the series, as the new principal of Nevermore Academy. Netflix has not yet announced the news.

Shortly afterwards came reports that Thandiwe Newton would also join the series in an undisclosed role. Newton is known for her roles in hit projects like Line of Duty and Westworld. Despite being covered in multiple outlets, Netflix has not yet confirmed this casting either.

Currently, there is no official trailer available for Wednesday season two but as soon as it’s released, you’ll find it here.
