Sunday marks the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest – and arguably the proudest – days in Watford’s history.

Thousands of Hornets fans decked out in yellow, red and black travelled to Villa Park on Saturday, April 14, 1984 hoping to witness their team reach an FA Cup Final for the first time.

Graham Taylor’s side were the favourites against Third Division Plymouth Argyle and an early goal was to ultimately prove enough to book Watford’s place at Wembley – George Reilly heading home after a fine and run and cross from John Barnes in the 14th minute.

The Watford Observer is intending to mark the anniversary by publishing a gallery of pictures of the semi-final action and joyous celebrations on Sunday, but today the spotlight is on those of you who were in the crowd and part of a very special day.
