Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana is hopeful that he will be fit in time for the pre-season tour of the United States this summer after a nightmare injury run.

The 23-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2022 with plenty of expectation on his shoulders. Fofana featured in just two matches for the Blues in the Premier League before suffering a knee injury which kept him out until February.

His return lasted until that summer when the Frenchman suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. The extent of the injury was so devastating that Fofana did not feature under Mauricio Pochettino for the entirety of his spell last season.

When asked in May whether Fofana will be fit for the tour of America which shall see the Blues face; Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid, Pochettino replied: "We hope so, yes.

"He is doing well, very positive, we were talking yesterday and hope he can be available to be part of the group. He is still not part of group training."

Pochettino has now, of course, left the club but Fofana's road to recovery has continued. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday evening, the 23-year-old shared a picture of himself on holiday in Little Haiti with the caption: "Sea, Strength and Sun. Ready for the next war."

Among those to share their support for Fofana were his teammates; Christopher Nkunku, Omari Hutchinson and Nicolas Jackson who all liked the post. The Blues' first pre-season fixture shall take place at Santa Clara's Levi's Stadium on Wednesday, July 24.
