West Brom fans get a glimpse of what could have been under Darren Moore
After months of watching aimless performances and terrible tactical decisions, West Brom fans are finally getting a taste of what it’s like to have a competent manager in charge at The Hawthorns.
The 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Saturday, coming back from 0-2 down against one of the best sides in Europe, gave Baggies fans a taste of what could, and probably should, have been. The results and performances since Darren Moore has taken charge have been excellent, including an unbelievable win against Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.

However, there is a bitter-sweet element to this current run of form. If you’re an Albion fan, you can’t help but think where would West Brom would be if Moore had taken charge 10 or 15 games ago. The Jamaican is showing that this squad had enough quality to stay in the Premier League, but this late rally is simply too little too late.
What ‘Big Dave’ has done is nothing extravagant or spectacular, he’s simply set the team up in a sensible, balanced formation and made the players believe they are good enough for this division. He’s given them belief, something Alan Pardew wasn’t able to do when he was in charge.
I’ve noticed a massive difference in the attitude and individual performances over the last few games, most notably, the performances of Matt Phillips. Under Alan Pardew, he was very poor, constantly gave the ball away and didn’t have the confidence to run at his man and make things happen. Against Liverpool however, Phillips was probably the best player on the pitch and gave Alberto Moreno an absolutely torrid time. He was taking people on and showing real power and pace, something we haven’t really seen for almost a year, I forgot how quick he was!
