West Brom Fan View: Trip to Watford may end Alan Pardew's reign

Alan Pardew’s time is nearly up at West Brom.
Alan Pardew’s time is nearly up at West Brom.

After the devastating defeat to Huddersfield Town at the Hawthorns last weekend, which all but confirmed West Brom’s relegation from the Premier League, it looks likely that Alan Pardew’s stint as manager will be over should the Baggies fall to another defeat. His appointment was largely welcomed after the sacking of Tony Pulis, but Pardew’s appointment has had no impact.

When Pardew first arrived at the club, there was a sense of relief that the club had chosen a new direction, after fans got fed-up with Pulis and his overly-negative approach. Although a new approach and style of play has been forthcoming, results have continued to deteriorate, with the recent loss to Huddersfield confirming that Pardew was the wrong choice to lead this club clear of danger.

I refuse to believe that sacking Tony Pulis was the wrong choice. Both performances and results under his management were dire for a long time and the club was a sinking ship. The truth is that Pardew is a confidence manager, his style is to try to invigorate players and get an immediate reaction, and when that reaction never came, it was clear that it was only going to go one way.

There’s been a lot of talk about Chris Brunt this week after he allegedly berated some players in the dressing room after their performances against Huddersfield. It was also rumoured that he openly questioned Alan Pardew’s tactics when the game had finished. Personally, I am delighted that someone cares enough to show a bit of passion, and he’s right, both Pardew’s tactics and individual performances were not good enough.

Chris Brunt should be on West Brom’s team sheet every week.
For Pardew to leave out Brunt, our primary source of creativity and the only one who looks like he can create chances in this squad, is clearly a major mistake. Especially when you consider that he’s being left out for James McClean, who lacks any sort of quality in the final third.

Hopefully, we can get a result at Watford but if not, it’s likely to be the end of Pardew at West Brom.
