The Marquette Golden Eagles have become stalwarts in March Madness. Having made the tournament 15 times since 2000, the school is no stranger to success this time of year. Head coach Shaka Smart is hoping to improve on that success as the Eagles soar through the madness once again.

But what has been strange about Marquette is, well, where exactly it is. The NCAA Tournament has never been light on schools with a little bit of geographical mystery for the casual viewer, and that's true even for a tourney regular like Marquette.

Where is Marquette University?

Marquette University's main campus is located in Milwaukee. The team plays its home games in the Fiserv Forum, also home of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks.

The school's first season playing basketball took place in 1916-17, and the program joined the Big East conference in 2005.

Has Marquette ever won a national championship?

The school has enjoyed tournament success. It reached the Final Four in 2003, and won its first and only national championship in 1977.

The Golden Eagles made the Sweet 16 in 2024, the first time they've done so since 2013.
