Why there was heartbreak after teen racer's superb debut

A WARRINGTON teenager raced with his new factory team and thought he had won a podium place on debut in the Junior Kart Championship, but it proved not to be.

For Jake Anders, who recently joined X-kart, it was his first time competing in a Motorsport UK race, which was in the junior category at Cumbria Kart Club in Rowrah.

A weekend of action brought qualifying on the Saturday and the Burtonwood 14-year-old put his kart on pole position.

Two heat races followed to set the grids for the superheats the next day, with Jake finishing those contests first and second respectively.

This put him in pole position on Sunday and he was first over the line in superheat one but fourth in the second one after an incident on lap one dropped Jake down the order.

Jake started the super final second on the grid and finished third, so he looked to have picked up a podium on his first championship race at this level.

“We were however disqualified after a technical infringement on our kart,” said Jake’s dad, Phillip.

“Although we were massively disappointed to be disqualified, Jake showed he had the pace all weekend to beat some of the top junior Rotax drivers in the country.”

Jake, who only started outdoor karting last year and was crowned Global Karting League national champion, and his team will be in action again at Fullbeck in one week’s time and will hope to be as competitive then.

His dad said Jake is looking for support to help him continue his progress.

“As you can imagine this is a mega expensive sport to be in and I’m running out of money,” said Phillip.

“We are desperately seeking sponsorship off a local firm who we can partner up with us to help us go all the way and get Jake where he belongs at the top of the sport.

“We have 24.4K insta followers and a big YouTube channel growing by the day, so we can provide great reach and awareness for a local company getting on board with us.

“The races are live streamed from karting live tv on YouTube.”
