Why Luis Díaz is being linked with Liverpool transfer exit despite dropping hint over future

Liverpool winger Luis Díaz continues to be linked with a move away from Anfield this summer. Díaz, 27, has been one of the few regulars this season after injuries swept their way through the first-team squad.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota have all missed extended periods but the Colombian has featured in 36 of the 37 Premier League fixtures this season.

With eight goals and five assists across, Díaz has begun to recapture the form that endeared him to the Liverpool fanbase when he first arrived at the club in 2022. That flair, threat and consistency in the attacking third has now sparked the interest of clubs across Europe.

It was reported by The Telegraph previously that Díaz had emerged as a potential target for PSG. He is contracted until 2027 but remains on the same terms he signed when he arrived from Porto.

The French champions are prepare for the imminent departure of Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona has also been mooted as a possible destination for the winger. According to The Athletic, Liverpool is in the market for a wide attacker, amid Díaz's reluctance to sign a new deal at the club.

The player has commented on his future in recent weeks and insisted he was happy on Merseyside. “I have grown a lot,” he told Liverpool's official website.

“From the beginning of my career to today, I feel that with the passage of days, of years, living each experience in each different team, coming to this great club that is Liverpool, leaves you with a lot of learnings.

“You learn more and more to be a professional, to be a better person, to be a good teammate and a good guy. The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that.

“Personally, I will always try to do my best, always try to give 100 per cent, to always stand out on the field, which is what I came [here] to do. I’m always grateful to God for every opportunity.”

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool is reportedly keen to add reinforcements in the wide areas ahead of Arne Slot's imminent arrival. With Díaz's future uncertain and Mohamed Salah the wrong side of 30, it is clear that the club need to invest. It has been a much improved campaign from Díaz but it is unclear if he will be offered a new deal and other clubs are on alert.
