FA Cup action continues Wednesday for multiple Premier League teams, including league-leading Liverpool (18-6-2) at home against EFL Championship contender Southampton (20-7-7).

The Reds are fresh off a 1-0 win in the Carabao Cup Final match against Chelsea. That's their fourth win in a row and 10th out of 12 to start 2024. Virgil van Dijk's scored in each of the last two matches, including the deciding goal in the 118th minute against Chelsea to win the Carabao Cup. Liverpool's made the fifth round of the FA Cup following a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the third round and a 5-2 win over Norwich City in the fourth round. They are facing multiple injuries this week, though.

Southampton is currently fourth in the EFL Championship table but they've dropped three of their last four matches, including a 2-1 loss to Millwall - a squad near relegation - in their last match. This rough patch comes after a streak of 25 matches without a loss dating back to late September. The Saints got to Wednesday's match against Liverpool following a 4-0 win over Walsall in the third round as well as a 1-1 draw and 3-0 win over Watford in the fourth round.

Liverpool vs. Southampton predictions

Insiders Betting Digest: Take the Liverpool money line

Jamie Griffith writes: "People making soccer picks will see that Liverpool is missing Salah, which is a big part of its attack. However, the Reds have a deep lineup and should be able to make up for his absence in other matches. Liverpool is catching Southampton at a good time. The Saints haven’t played well in the Championship over the past few weeks. Southampton will struggle to keep up with the powerful Liverpool attack and the Reds will inch closer to another cup trophy."

The London Evening Standard: Liverpool 4, Southampton 1

Marc Mayo writes: "It is simply so difficult to see past a Liverpool victory on Wednesday night. Southampton could well cause problems for their creaky defence but the sheer goalscoring might possessed by the hosts makes them big favourites."

Sportskeeda: Liverpool 3, Southampton 0

Joshua Ojele says: "With the thrill from their EFL Cup triumph still lingering in the air, Liverpool will head into the midweek clash with ski-high confidence. While Klopp is expected to name a youthful side — given the club’s injury crisis — expect the Reds to come away with a comfortable home win."
