When West Brom drew Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup, like most Albion fans, I was pessimistic about our chances.

Despite getting a draw at Anfield in the Premier League earlier this season, I thought this might just be Liverpool’s chance to get revenge, especially if Alan Pardew picked a weakened side.

In my opinion, what happened during the game perfectly summed up the difference Alan Pardew has made since coming in as head coach. No longer are we a consistently negative team, full of players who look restricted by the tactical system, we actually have a go.

These players look they’ve been let off a leash, playing full of confidence and relishing their new-found freedom.

Let’s take Jay Rodriguez for example. Under Tony Pulis, he looked a shadow of the player he once was at Southampton, stuck out on the wing and overwhelmed with defensive responsibilities, he was making little impact on games. Since Pardew has arrived, Rodriguez has been nothing short of outstanding. He looks faster, sharper and an altogether different player.

He’s now scored five goals in his last six games for the Baggies. A player who was once buried underneath the weight of negative tactics, West Brom may just have had the striker they need under their noses all along.

But it’s not just Rodriguez, look at the improvement of players like Salomon Rondon, James McClean, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Kieran Gibbs. Pardew’s management has given them more confidence, and West Brom are now reaping the rewards.

It may not have started terribly well, but it’s now clear the impact that Pardew has had on this Albion team. Beating Liverpool at Anfield is extraordinary, and even though VAR might get all the headlines, the performance of the whole West Brom team was sensational.

If West Brom can continue to be positive in games and put in the type of performance they did against Liverpool on Saturday, Premier League survival will follow.
