Wolves have secured a major boost for the future after agreeing new deals with Conor Coady and Matt Doherty.

Coady, the Wolves captain, has signed a new four-and-a-half year deal, of around £50,000-a-week, to commit his future to Nuno Espirito Santo’s upwardly mobile team.

Telegraph Sport reported in January that Coady was in talks over a lucrative extension and Wolves concluded negotiations earlier this week.

Coady is also in contention for an England call-up after he was watched by Gareth Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Monday night.

He said: “To get it done and be sorted is fantastic, it’s a great for me and my family to be part of this football club for four more years.

“It’s a an absolutely huge football club and I love being a part of it, it’s really special.”

Doherty, the Republic of Ireland international, has also signed fresh terms after establishing himself as a key player under Nuno in the Premier League. His deal will also run to the summer of 2023.

He said: “I last signed about 18 months ago, and it’s been a good ride since then. We’ve got promoted and we’re still in the midst of a really good season, so I’m happy to tie down my long-term future.

“I’ve been here nine years and they’ve not got rid of me, so I’ll be here for a while yet. I love it here and don’t want to go anywhere. I’m completely settled, so long may it continue.”

Wolves face Championship promotion contenders Bristol City in the FA Cup at Ashton Gate on Sunday.
